The USC Mann School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences is accepting applications for a Prior Authorization Technician to provide prior authorization support for the USC Medical Plaza Pharmacy. The prior authorization technician will primarily be responsible for completing prior authorizations, making outbound calls to patients for refills, respond to patient inquiries regarding prescriptions or patient accounts, assist pharmacy/patient/physicians to apply for financial assistance programs, outreach to financial assistance sources to have as a resource, inputting prescription orders, and assist pharmacy staff at the direction of the pharmacy director.
Job Responsibilities
- Applying for and completing prior authorizations.
- Assist with PA appeals and resubmissions when necessary.
- Accessing Electronic Medical Record to extract necessary information to complete prior authorizations
- Track, monitor, and follow up on PA determinations to ensure timely medication access.
- Interacting with provider staff to complete prior authorizations and maintain accurate documentation of all communications and status updates.
- Assist patients in securing financial assistance for high-copay medications, including manufacturer copay programs and Patient Assistance Programs (PAP).
- Prescription order entry, including refill orders from outbound and inbound refill request call and billing for charge accounts
- Preparing reports as necessary
- Provide professional customer service in person and via telephone.
- Process point-of-sale (POS) transactions accurately and efficiently.
- Bag and prepare completed prescriptions for patient pickup.
- Assist with call triage, scanning, filing, and general clerical tasks.

- Knowledge of Medicare, Medi-Cal, and commercial insurance processes
- Familiarity with financial assistance programs and manufacturer copay support processes.
The hourly rate range for this position is $25.00 - $26.00.
