We are seeking an Associate to support Alexandria’s East Coast operations, based in Research Triangle, with a primary focus on the scientific and financial diligence of prospective tenants and investments, the ongoing monitoring of existing tenants and investments, tracking of industry and ecosystem trends, as well as other strategic projects. The Associate will assess companies’ business models, development programs, financing strategies, capital positions, management teams, and key operating and value-creation milestones to identify opportunities and risks relevant to Alexandria’s real estate portfolio. In addition, the Associate will support ecosystem activities in the Research Triangle region as well as life science initiatives across Alexandria’s other East Coast regional markets, as needed.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Conduct research and analyze performance indicators for specific tenants, investments, or other companies of interest.
  • Participate and support one-on-one meetings with prospective and current portfolio companies, ongoing evaluation of their research and development plans and fundraising efforts, review of pitch decks, etc.
  • Engage in business development and networking activities across the local life science ecosystem and provide periodic support to other regions as needed.
  • Conduct in-depth research relevant to various disease and therapeutic areas, capital markets, U.S. healthcare and regulatory activities, and broader trends in the life science and technology industries.

Other Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate cross-functionally across Alexandria’s leasing, accounting, finance, and regional leadership teams to support core business objectives and strategic initiatives.
  • Prepare correspondence, background information, and/or copy for event materials, as needed.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a life science-related field required. Master’s or PhD a plus.
  • Minimum 5 years’ prior work experience (or equivalent educational experience, e.g., PhD work) within the life science industry; experience in venture investment, investment banking, consulting, and/or business development preferred.
  • Solid understanding of the life science and broader healthcare industry, including, but not limited to, chemistry and biology fundamentals, the drug development process, the U.S. healthcare and regulatory landscape, venture and equity financing, and human disease.
  • Knowledge of capital markets and finance a plus.
  • Strong research and analytical skills, as well as high attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and to effectively manage and organize multiple projects concurrently.
  • Excellent written communication skills a must, along with the ability to create concise and impactful written reports, correspondence, and responses to requests from team members and executive-level members within the Company.
  • Ability to communicate and collaborate with coworkers, management, and others in a courteous and professional manner.
