Description
The Alexandria Area YMCA is seeking an Aquatics Director to join our team and lead the operations, staff, and programming of our aquatics department. This role is responsible for overseeing all aspects of aquatic services, ensuring a safe, high-quality, and welcoming environment for members, participants, and staff.
Essential Functions
- Implement, manage, and continuously improve high-quality aquatics programs that align with community needs and YMCA standards for safety, quality, and care; expand programming in alignment with strategic priorities.
- Supervise aquatics staff, including recruitment, hiring, onboarding, training, scheduling, and performance evaluations; motivate and support staff to achieve departmental and organizational goals while maintaining accurate certification records.
- Assist in the development and management of the aquatics budget.
- Ensure completion of required safety documentation, drills, and compliance requirements; actively participate in the Safety Committee.
- Conduct internal and external safety training for lifeguards, swim instructors, staff, and community members, ensuring all certifications remain current.
- Maintain and analyze program statistics to evaluate participation, effectiveness, and opportunities for improvement.
- Coordinate scheduling of pool facilities.
- Ensure pool facilities meet all health and safety standards, including cleanliness, appropriate temperature, chemical balance, water testing, and maintenance protocols.
- Build strong relationships with members and the community by responding promptly and effectively to inquiries and concerns, enhancing overall customer experience.
- Provide coverage for swim lessons and/or lifeguard shifts as needed to support safe and effective pool operations.
- Assist with marketing and distribution of program information.
- Support YMCA fundraising initiatives and special events.
