What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior Center Activity Assistant position at Alexander County, NC?
Assists with activities and programs for all of the Senior Center locations. An employee in this class assists in providing services for senior participants within a senior center setting. Employee must be willing to interact with seniors throughout the day. Employee must be willing to participate with the seniors in activities (exercise, wood carving, crocheting, knitting, bingo, dominoes, etc.) when needed. Position requires a friendly, outgoing, service-oriented person to greet and interact with senior citizen participants at the main and satellite centers. The work is performed under the general supervision of the Senior Center Director and is reviewed using attendance reports and feedback from the citizens served.
- Manages the activities during regular hours of operations.
- Opens and closes the center.
- Answers cell phone and greets new people.
- Prepares for the day by making coffee and snacks.
- Arranges the furniture several times per day in the rooms to meet the needs of each group.
- Participates in activities as needed.
- Closes up the center at the end of each day by returning tables and chairs to their normal locations.
- Keeps track of daily attendance.
- Communicates with the main center about needs for supplies and participant-driven changes to activity schedules.
- Plans and drives for occasional trips.
- After completing training, employee should be able to answer basic questions about Medicare Part D (Drug Plans).
- Advise Director in planning for satellite center’s activities from participant feedback.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Ability to communicate positively and effectively with staff, participants, and members of the public.
- Ability to multi-task and manage time by working independently.
- Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office programs, including email.
- Basic knowledge of how to use the internet.
- Ability to complete an online training class through NC Department of Insurance SHIIP regarding Medicare Part D (Drug Plan).
- Ability to use a DVD player and a Smart TV.
- Ability to monitor the work of volunteers.
- Ability to prepare and maintain accurate records.
- Graduation from high school and experience working with the public.
- SHIIP Counselor (Medicare Part D information) training (can be completed after hire).
- Possess a valid North Carolina drivers’ license.
- Crafting or creative hobbies.
