What are the responsibilities and job description for the L/O Equity Research Analyst position at Alexander Chapman?
About the Firm:
We are partnering with a boutique, New York-based investment management firm that takes a long-term, long-only approach to public equities. With a philosophy grounded in deep fundamental research and a conviction-led strategy, the firm manages a concentrated portfolio of high-quality businesses across global markets.
Position Overview:
We’re looking for a sharp, curious, and driven Investment Equity Analyst to join a tight-knit investment team. This is not a role for someone looking to plug into a model and tweak assumptions — it’s for someone who wants to build their own view from the ground up, challenge consensus thinking, and help shape a portfolio built on conviction. From day one, you’ll work closely with the portfolio manager and be given meaningful ownership of ideas.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct in-depth research on companies, industries, and competitive dynamics across global equity markets
- Build and maintain detailed financial models, including forecasts, valuations, and scenario analyses
- Prepare investment memos and present actionable ideas to the portfolio manager
- Monitor portfolio holdings and assess material updates to company fundamentals
- Attend earnings calls, industry conferences, and management meetings as needed
- Support the team in maintaining a high-conviction, concentrated long-only portfolio
What We’re Looking For:
- 2–5 years of experience in equity research, investment banking, private equity, or related buy-side roles
- A strong academic foundation in finance, accounting, economics, or a related field
- Exceptional analytical skills with a deep understanding of valuation and financial modeling
- A natural curiosity and an independent mindset — you’re not afraid to ask “why?” or go against the grain
- Strong written and verbal communication; you can translate complex analysis into clear, persuasive arguments
- A collaborative, low-ego attitude with the ability to work in a small, entrepreneurial team
- Genuine interest in public markets and a long-term approach to investing
Preferred:
- Prior experience covering a specific sector (e.g., TMT, healthcare, industrials, etc.)
- CFA designation or progress toward it is a plus
