SENIOR GEOLOGIST

Reports to: General Manager
Status: Regular, Full-time, Exempt
Location: Anchorage, AK

JOB SUMMARY: The Senior Geologist is responsible for overseeing various technical aspects of our projects. This role involves coordinating with different stakeholders, ensuring compliance with environmental regulations, and implementing best practices to promote sustainability. As a Senior Geologist, you will lead a team of professionals and ensure that all project goals are met with efficiency and effectiveness. You will also be responsible for conducting leading planning and reporting efforts and managing teams in the field.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Champion Aleut Values: accountability, transparency, and rigor.
  • Lead various technical tasks such as work plan and report preparation for different types of client documents.
  • Plan, supervise, and execute various types of environmental remediation and monitoring efforts in the field.
  • Lead the development, production, and delivery of technical documents to meet strict project schedules and in accordance with applicable standards for quality.
  • Assist in management of projects in accordance with the corporate and contract health and safety requirements.
  • Prepare progress reporting documents including weekly and/or monthly status reports, and others.
  • Collaborate with clients and regulators during field efforts.
  • Mentor technical staff both in the office and in the field.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • In-depth knowledge of state and federal environmental regulations.
  • Knowledge of and experience with federal clients.
  • Ability to collaborate with other subject matter experts in a project team setting.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgement, tact, discretion, and initiative.
  • Ability to remain focused and remain effective in a dynamic environment with competing priorities and deadlines.
  • Demonstrated expertise in the Microsoft Office suite of products.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with stakeholders.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Travel to other local and out-of-state sites, conferences and meetings is required.
  • Experience is desired in several of the following areas: Alaska, CERCLA, RCRA, and ADEC.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Geology or related experience, education, and/or training.
  2. Ten (10) years of experience performing science-related tasks on environmental projects.
  3. 40-hour HAZWOPER certification is required and/or ability to complete training within 6 months of hire.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Master's degree in Geology, Environmental Science, or related field.
  2. Experience working within an Alaska Native Corporation.
  3. ArcGIS and AutoCAD experience.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  1. Must be able to lift 25 pounds at a time to carry and handle field equipment.
  2. Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  3. Physically able to travel to field sites and travers areas by foot.
