What are the responsibilities and job description for the Financial Analyst position at ALEC Credit Union?
SUMMARY: Responsible for the production of critical financial analyses to support ALEC’s financial reporting, investment portfolio, Asset/Liability Management (ALCO) model, Budgeting and Profitability Analysis.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
· Responsible for maintaining ALM software and ensuring accurate monthly reporting, including Board of Director, ALCO, Senior Management and Responsibility Center (RC) reports
· Analyzes financial information to produce variance and forecast reports
· Assembles spreadsheets and draws charts and graphs used to illustrate financial information
· Interprets data affecting investment programs, such as price, yield, stability, future trends in investment risks, and economic influences
· Maintains knowledge and stays abreast of developments in the fields of business, finance, and economic theory
· Monitors fundamental economic, industrial, and corporate developments through the analysis of information obtained from financial publications and services, investment banking firms, government agencies and trade publications
· Assists in the preparation of investment action plans based on financial analyses
· Researches investment alternatives and makes recommendations to CFO
· Assists in the budget and reforecast process
· Maintains budget systems and assembles reforecast information in the Budget system
· Evaluates profit and cost efficiencies in various areas of the organization as needed
· Develops, maintains and distributes ad-hoc reports and financial models as needed
· Assists Accounting with the proper application of GAAP
· Other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS:
· Education Required: High School Diploma or equivalent (GED)
· Education Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration
· Experience Required: Two (2) years of experience working in an Accounting or Finance position
· Experience Preferred: Three (3) years of experience working in an Accounting or Finance position within a financial institution
· Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs):
· Ability to analyze and interpret financial and accounting data and summarize in a manner which can be communicated to the business leaders in an efficient manner.
· Financial analysis capability using financial and/or accounting applications and the Microsoft Office Suite
· Capable of using critical thinking skills and judgment when making decisions
· General knowledge of current financial debt markets
· Knowledge of US GAAP
· Ability to perform job functions independently
· Ability to work as part of a team
· Ability to verbally communicate effectively with internal and/or external members
· Ability to use computers and job-specific technology/software efficiently
· Maintains confidentiality
· Performs responsibilities with composure, quality and accuracy under stress of deadlines/requirements
TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS: Up to 5% local and national travel to attend training, networking events and conferences
