GENERAL SUMMARY

The mission of Alder Graduate School of Education (Alder) is to create opportunities and cultivate success for every student by recruiting and educating excellent teachers and leaders who reflect our schools’ communities. 

We offer a teacher residency program that provides students with the opportunity to earn a Master’s degree and teaching credential in one year and apprentice with an experienced mentor teacher four days a week in a partner school. Since 2010, we have educated nearly 2,600 teachers across California, and data shows that our graduates are more effective from day one as teachers, stay in the profession longer, and are more connected to the TK-12 students they serve than graduates from other teaching credential programs.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

This position will focus on supporting recruitment and admissions of teacher resident candidates for a portfolio of 5 to 8 of Alder’s TK-12 school partners/cohorts. The Alder Recruitment and Admissions Manager is a hybrid position that will report to the Associate Director of Recruitment and Admissions and is a dynamic, multi-part position responsible for the following:

Recruitment of Teacher Residents: 

  • In line with Alder’s overall recruitment strategy, develop and implement an effective recruitment plan in order to recruit residents for the Teacher Residency at Alder GSE. 
  • Engage in outreach and generating new leads – plan, implement, and expand upon Alder’s current recruitment strategies and tactics, with a focus on building an applicant pool who reflect our TK-12 partners’ school communities. 
  • Build and manage relationships with a variety of key stakeholders: identify, establish, and strengthen partnerships with current staff, alumni, professors, community leaders, other organizations, and the larger education community to create referral networks and build pipelines of talented candidates. 
  • Cultivate interested candidates and design and execute touchpoints that deepen their investment in our residency program as they move through the admissions process.
  • Strategically use data to continuously improve: consistently collect data to track candidate and campaign progress to inform next steps and to develop portfolio expertise 
  • Plan and run well-attended events, including information sessions, webinars, meetings, and networking events; attend career fairs and panels; coordinate school visits and meetings with prospective candidates. 
  • Manage communications and follow up; proactively initiate email, text, and phone communications to high-needs/high-potential prospects and applicants; provide professional, timely, and consistent follow-up before and after events, and during prospective and applicant stages. 
  • Collaborate weekly with Alder recruitment team and biweekly with TK-12 partner recruitment contacts on recruitment best practices and candidate management. 
  • Travel to all four regions (Bay Area, Central Valley, Central Coast, and Los Angeles) to execute the engagement and recruitment strategies listed above. 


Admissions: 

Under the Managing Director of Admissions and Communications, the Recruitment and Admissions Manager will:

  • Manage the Alder residency admissions process for 5 to 8 TK-12 partners/cohorts (screening, ongoing communication, admission decisions, and processing) to ensure a fully enrolled class of residents.
  • Support directors in planning, hosting, and screening candidates with interview days. 
  • Potentially travel to all four regions (Bay Area, Central Valley, Central Coast, and Los Angeles) to co-host interview days throughout the year.


Other Related Duties & Responsibilities 

  • Serve on Alder-wide committees as time allows.
  • Volunteer at Commencement Weekend a minimum of once every three years 
  • Demonstrates knowledge of, and supports Alder’s mission, vision, core values, standards, policies and procedures, operating instructions, confidentiality standards, and the code of ethical behavior.
  • Performs other related duties as required and assigned.


QUALIFICATIONS
  1. Required experience, skills & abilities:
  • 3 years of full-time professional experience in related roles (recruitment, admissions, institutions of higher learning, TK-12 education, non-profits, community-based organizations)
  • Minimum of 2 years of full-time recruitment or admissions experience
  • Success building high-quality, diverse applicant pools 
  • Strong ability to build relationships with a variety of stakeholders
  • Exceptional written and verbal communicator 
  • Thrives in a fast-paced environment and operates with a sense of urgency
  • Exceptional organizational skills
  • Strong ability to multitask and prioritize 
  • Ability to work independently as well as with a team 
  • Evidence of using data to improve processes and outcomes
  • Ability to work in ambiguous, complex, and rapidly changing environments
  • Ability to travel regularly to the four California regions for recruitment and admissions events
  • Motivated by Alder’s vision and mission
  • Must have legal authorization to work in the United States  


2) Preferred experience, skills & abilities:

  • Experience laterally managing others
  • Familiarity with any of the following platforms a plus: LinkedIn Recruiter, Handshake, Canva, Salesforce


3) Minimum educational level:

  • B.A. Degree required


LOCATION

Alder has four regions; the Bay Area, Central Valley, Central Coast, and Los Angeles. 

The ideal candidate will be based out of Southern California (Los Angeles County, San Bernardino County, or Riverside County preferred, but candidates located in other Alder regions will be considered). 


PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be reasonably met by an executive assistant to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Occasionally lift and/or move a minimum of 30 pounds. While performing the duties of this job, frequently required to sit, stand, move, feel, reach with hands and arms, talk and hear.


WORK ENVIRONMENT

The office work environment characteristics are representative of those in a typical office which one might encounter while performing the essential functions of this job. The noise, exposure to dust, oils, and cleaning chemicals are moderate. Work may be performed in indoor and/or outdoor environments. There may be some moderate exposure to childhood and/or other diseases in a school environment.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

COMPENSATION

Compensation commensurate with experience ($79,000- $84,000 salary band range). Placement in the band is based on numerous factors, including qualifications, skills, and experiences.
