POSITION OVERVIEW

Alden Laurel is seeking an experienced Installation Crew Lead to work alongside our Installation Manager in delivering residential landscape projects to the highest standard of craftsmanship and care.

This is a hands-on field leadership role. You will direct daily crew operations on active job sites by organizing projects, keeping production efficient, quality high, and your team supported and accountable. You bring experience in landscape installation, a strong work ethic, and the kind of presence that elevates everyone around you. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Field Leadership & Crew Management

  • Direct daily crew operations on plant installation and native plant restoration projects under the guidance of the Installation Manager
  • Maintain clear communication with the Installation Manager on daily progress, site conditions, and any issues that arise
  • Oversee unloading, layout, and installation strategies for native and ornamental tree, shrub and perennial planting on residential landscapes
  • Manage invasive tree, shrub, and perennial plant species in natural areas
  • Maintain the highest standards of timeliness on site, cleanliness and organization of tools, trucks, and safety standards on project sites
  • Set the pace and standard for the installation team; leading by example with professionalism and site conduct
  • Assign tasks, manage workflow, and ensure the team is working safely, efficiently, and in accordance with the project plan
  • Support onboarding and on-site training of new crew members, reinforcing Alden Laurel's standards of quality and care

Installation Quality & Craftsmanship

  • Oversee and participate in all phases of landscape installation; including proper planting methods, irrigation, and mulch installation
  • Review design plans in the field with Designers and Managers;, flagging discrepancies and communicating change orders with the Installation Manager before proceeding
  • Uphold planting excellence and landscape integrity on every project, ensuring finished work reflects the design and meets Alden Laurel's quality standards

Site Operations & Logistics

  • Manage daily site setup, organization, and close-out; including planting material staging, temporary watering, tool accountability, and site cleanliness
  • Coordinate delivery of plant material, irrigation, mulch, and hardscape materials as directed by the Installation Manager
  • Perform basic vehicle and equipment checks (fluid levels, tire pressure, minor maintenance) and report any mechanical issues promptly
  • Assist with debris disposal, material handling, and organization of the plant yard and storage areas as needed

Plant Health & Site Stewardship

  • Apply temporary irrigation, mulch, amendments, in accordance with best horticultural practices
  • Assist with minor irrigation installation and repairs including temporary systems, broken heads, and line repairs
  • Support IPM practices and safe pesticide handling in accordance with state and federal regulations as directed

QUALIFICATIONS

Required

  • Hands-on landscape installation and horticultural experience, with a demonstrated field leadership role; directing crews, organizing daily workflow, and holding a team accountable to quality
  • Proven ability to plan, prioritize, and adapt scope of work in the field; keeping projects moving efficiently
  • Confident working knowledge of native and ornamental plant identification, with experience in native plant restoration and invasive species management aligned with New England ecosystems
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record; ability to operate a truck, trailer, and equipment
  • Physical ability to perform demanding outdoor work across a full New England season

Preferred

  • 3 years of professional experience in residential landscape installation and project coordination
  • Familiarity with construction estimating, project management software, and in-field collaboration with project teams
  • Knowledge of civil engineering principles: grading, drainage, irrigation systems, and site infrastructure
  • Massachusetts Certified Horticulturist (MCH), Massachusetts Association of Landscape Professionals (MALP) certification, or equivalent green industry credential, or active pursuit of same
  • Pesticide applicator's license or willingness to obtain (reimbursed by Alden Laurel)
