Your Valued Contributions:
The Dental Coordinator facilitates Dental Department processes by working collaboratively with Dental Assistants to ensure that tasks are completed, that good working relationships among dental staff and management are maintained, and that Dental Department priorities and goals, needs, and achievements are coordinated with management.
- Serves as a work leader, providing guidance and technical direction necessary for Dental Support Staff (DSS) to accomplish their work.
- Serves as the department expert in infection control. Provides job or task specific training for all DSS in infection control, covering safe practices for staff and for patients. Ensures adherence to infection-control policies and protocols.
- Conducts ongoing infection control surveillance involving patients and all clinical staff, using criteria from the Centers for Disease Control, OSHA, and MIOSHA to identify and report infection control deficiencies and provide areas of opportunity for improvement.
- Documents infection control deficiency determinations, exposure incidents and follow up. Provides education to ensure performance improvement.
- Monitors the status and progress of DSS work and makes adjustments in accordance with the needs of patients and providers. Monitors the status and progress of work and makes adjustment in accordance with established procedures.
- Trains DSS in dental assisting and in the accomplishment of tasks or projects. Maintains current knowledge and answers questions from staff on procedures, policies, and directives.
- Acts as first point of contact for dental clinical staff.
- Assist the dentists/hygienists as needed in chair-side procedures routinely done in a general dental practice.
- Actively works to be a role model to DSS and to maintain a good working relationship with coworkers.
- Provides administrative support to the dental practice
- Ensures the dental operatories, labs, and sterilization areas are in a clean and operational condition. Assures that the dental operatories are set up and shut down each work day to maintain infection control standards, dental equipment upkeep, and security of the clinic area. Delegates these duties as necessary.
- Collaborates with the Dental Operations Manager on daily staffing needs to ensure smooth operation of the Dental Department.
- Serves as a liaison between Clerical Support Staff and providers to maintain efficient and productive use of providers' patient care time and minimize missed opportunities.
- Maintain adequate work schedules for the DSS and delegate the daily workloads and tasks fairly among DSS.
- Monitors function of dental equipment and requests repair or replacement.
- Participates in the management of dental supplies to assure adequate stock levels and appropriate storage.
- Prepares timely and submits accurate bi-weekly payroll.
- Oversees operation of the school-based oral health program.
- Coordinate dental screenings and oral health education efforts with all elementary schools in the Alpena, Alcona, and Oscoda school districts, as well as Alpena, Alcona and Iosco Head Start.
- Facilitate planning and implementation of community based oral health strategies that relate to the health center Oral Health Plan and school based oral health programs.
- Expand oral health community outreach and education services by assisting with the planning, organizing, and implementation of dental outreach events and activities.
- Develop school-based oral health toolkit that includes permission forms, payment information and other information that meets all HIPAA and state regulation requirements.
- Obtains and completes appropriate patient consent/medical history forms, ensures patient confidentiality and maintains orderly medical records. Follows established Public Health medical records policies and procedures as well as the State and Federal laws that govern the release of health care information.
- Assists in coordinating requirements for the set-up of the clinics at the targeted sites.
- Assists in setting school clinic schedule and confirming dental professionals and staff.
- Prepares and submits monthly reports regarding Dental Department issues, concerns, program status, initiatives and progress to the Director of Dental Operations.
- Assists in the provision of continuing education, on the job training, and the orientation of school based oral health staff as requested.
- Serves on the dental staff and other committees as assigned.
- Promotes personal as well as departmental compliance with all applicable federal, state, local and center rules, regulations, protocols and procedures governing the practice of dentistry and the clinical provision of mobile dental care as well as those relating to, but not limited to personnel issues, workplace safety, public health and confidentiality.
- Assists in transporting portable dental equipment to school sites.
Required Training & Experience:
- Microsoft Office suite of products
- Use of Electronic Health Records system
- Possesses a current State of Michigan driver’s license and valid automobile insurance.
- Possesses a current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) CPR certification.
