What are the responsibilities and job description for the Overnight Residential Counselor (Substance Abuse Counseling Registration and Certification Required) position at Alcoholism Center For Women?
ACW’s residential program, and our Outpatient Programs are open and continuing to provide essential substance abuse treatment our Outpatient and Intensive Outpatient programs have transitioned to HIPAA compliant Telehealth services, treating our clients in the safety of their homes.
Since the ACW primarily works with female clients, Female counselors are encouraged to apply.
- Please note a Registration or certification in substance abuse from accredited institution is required.
- Counselors conduct phone screens, intakes, and ASAM assessments.
- Counselors work with the client to develop unique treatment plans for each of her/his assigned clients.
- Counselors maintain a caseload including weekly individual counseling sessions, documentation, file development, and service coordination and linkage.
- Counselors also conduct evidenced based groups and document group notes in our electronic health record system.
- Counselors ensure that the program schedule is maintained and help guests and potential clients receive help and/or referrals.
- Working knowledge of substance abuse treatment and recovery.
- Sensitive to the needs of women in treatment.
- Qualifications
- Registration or certification in substance abuse from accredited institution is required.
- Experience working with diverse populations, such as homeless women, women of color, battering and incest survivors, incarcerated women, and women with diverse sexual orientations.
- Ability to work in a community-based setting which utilizes team approach.
- Must be reliable, prompt, willing to learn and flexible
- AA Degree in Human services, or related field desirable.
- Degree may be substituted with high school degree and 3 years of experience in substance abuse treatment.
- Computer literate. Strong oral and written communications skills.
- Must have a valid California driver’s license or Identification.
- If recovering from substance abuse, must have minimum of 3 years clean and sober.
- Need not to be recovery to apply. English/Spanish speaking are encouraged to apply.
- The Alcoholism Center For Women (ACW) has been a substance abuse treatment facility for women for almost 45 years. Our residential treatment program began in 1974 and was the first program on the west coast to provide shelter and substance abuse. Over the years, ACW evolved into a gender responsive trauma informed sophisticated drug and alcohol State-certified and licensed substance abuse 32 bed residential treatment, certified Outpatient Programs in English and Spanish that both include family therapy, nutrition, case management and a Women’s HIV program and focus on wellness.
