Title: District Maintenance Supervisor
Reports to: Assistant Director of Schools and the District Operations Director
Supervises: All district maintenance personnel
Job Description: The District Maintenance Supervisor directs and manages all maintenance operations, repairs, and preventative maintenance for the school district's buildings, grounds, and equipment. This role is responsible for ensuring that all district facilities are safe, clean, well-maintained, and fully operational, thereby supporting student learning and staff productivity. The supervisor leads the maintenance staff, manages the department's budget, and ensures all operations comply with federal, state, and local regulations.
Terms: 12-month contract
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED equivalent required; an Associate's degree or trade certification is preferred.
- A minimum of 5-7 years of experience in maintenance operations, with increasing levels of responsibility.
- Preferred: A minimum of 3 years of supervisory experience in a maintenance role.
- Valid Tennessee driver's license.
- Preferred: Certifications in relevant technical fields, such as EPA 608 for refrigerants, or a Tennessee-licensed electrician.
- Experience in a school, large plant, or public facility setting is highly desirable.
Salary Range: $48,568-$68,619
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Supervision and Leadership: Supervise, train, and evaluate maintenance staff. Plan and schedule daily work assignments, special projects, and emergency responses.
- Preventative Maintenance: Develop, implement, and oversee a comprehensive preventative maintenance program for all district facilities and equipment, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical systems.
- Repair and Operations: Oversee all maintenance and repair activities for buildings, grounds, and utilities. This includes carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and HVAC repairs, as well as groundskeeping.
- Emergency Response: Be available 24/7 to respond to facility-related alarms and emergencies.
- Compliance and Safety: Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local laws, codes, and regulations, including OSHA and fire safety codes. Coordinate inspections with regulatory agencies such as the Tennessee State Fire Marshal.
- Budget and Inventory: Assist the Director of Operations in managing the departmental budget, including developing annual budget requests and tracking expenditures. Oversee inventory and stock control for all maintenance supplies, tools, and equipment.
- Contractor and Project Management: Inspect work performed by outside contractors to ensure it meets district standards. Assist in developing bid specifications and manage projects such as renovations or capital improvements.
- Record-Keeping: Maintain accurate records of all work orders, maintenance schedules, repairs, and supply purchases.
- Communication: Communicate effectively with school principals, staff, administrators, vendors, and the public regarding maintenance needs and project updates.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Thorough knowledge of maintenance, repair, and installation methods for structural, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems.
- Strong technical aptitude for diagnosing problems and overseeing repairs.
- Comprehensive understanding of health and safety regulations, including OSHA standards.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and equipment manuals.
- Proficiency with computer software for managing work orders, budgets, and preventative maintenance systems.
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects efficiently.
Physical Demands and Environmental Factors
- The supervisor is expected to perform and assist in repair and maintenance activities for buildings, grounds, and utilities.
- Work is performed indoors and outdoors in a variety of weather conditions.
- Regularly required to stand, walk, climb ladders, and lift up to 50 pounds.
- Occasional heavy lifting may be required.
- Exposure to noise, dust, chemicals, electrical hazards, and working with machinery with moving parts.
- May require working in awkward or tiring positions.
- Must be able to maintain emotional control under stress and respond to emergencies.
