Job Description: Student Engagement Coordinator

The Student Engagement Coordinator plays a vital role in fostering a positive and inclusive school environment that promotes student success. This position involves developing and implementing programs and initiatives that increase student involvement in academic, extracurricular, and community activities, ultimately improving attendance, behavior, and academic outcomes.

Job Summary

The Student Engagement Coordinator is responsible for designing, coordinating, and evaluating programs that enhance student engagement and well-being. This position works closely with students, families, staff, and community partners to create a supportive school culture, address barriers to student participation, and celebrate student achievement. The ideal candidate is a proactive and creative problem-solver with a passion for helping students thrive.

Main Responsibilities

  • Program Development and Coordination: Develop and implement a comprehensive student engagement strategy, including extracurricular activities, clubs, leadership programs, and community service initiatives.
  • Student Support and Mentorship: Provide guidance and support to students, helping them navigate challenges and connect with school resources. Serve as a mentor and positive role model. Implement strategic plans to assist students in staying engaged and motivated so they are on track for graduation.
  • Family and Community Outreach: Collaborate with families and community organizations to strengthen the school-to-home connection and build a network of support for students. Be a conduit for the school district and youth sports.
  • Data Analysis and Reporting: Monitor and analyze student data related to attendance, behavior, and academic performance to identify trends and assess the effectiveness of engagement programs.
  • Event Planning and Logistics: Organize and oversee school-wide events, student-led projects, and volunteer opportunities. Lead local events to promote the school and increase enrollment and retention.
  • Communication: Maintain effective communication with students, staff, and families through various channels, including newsletters, social media, and the school website. Contact students regularly to ensure they are engaged and on pace for graduation.

Qualifications

  • Education: A bachelor's degree in education, social work, counseling, or a related field is required. A master's degree is preferred.
  • Experience: A minimum of two years of professional experience in a K-12 school setting, working directly with students in a mentorship, counseling, or program coordination role. Experience within the 6-12 education setting is highly preferred.
  • Skills: Proficiency in data analysis, event planning, and a strong knowledge of student development theories. Familiarity with Iowa's educational landscape is a plus.
  • Personal Attributes: Must be a self-starter, results-driven, and possess a "can-do" attitude. A passion for student success and a commitment to the school's mission are essential.
