Job Description
To provide a behavior redirection/intervention program at school site.
Essential Functions
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Incumbent must achieve the following outcomes with or without reasonable accommodation:
- Provides behavior redirection strategies that align with restorative practice techniques and promote learning.
- Guides student's behavior from inappropriate to appropriate.
- Provides immediate and consistent interventions for students with behavioral concerns.
- Meets with students referred for behavioral concerns and intervenes early in the behavior cycle.
- Shortens the time a student is out of the classroom due to behaviors.
- Provides a structured format that helps students investigate their behavior(s).
- Helps students focus on positive choices.
- Attends and actively participates in the school's Health and Wellness Team as required.
- Returns student to the classroom, as soon as possible, with a plan for positive choices that enable learning to occur.
- Inputs case notes/data records in the district Student Information System.
- Acts as a role model in fostering students' language skills and positive behavior.
- Provides observation and consultation, as needed, for teachers to reduce behavior concerns in the classroom.
- Attends required training annually. At a minimum:
- Four Behavior Redirector trainings per year as determined by the department/district.
- New Behavior Redirectors must attend an additional orientation training.
- Complies with state-approved Code of Ethics of the Education Profession and upholds and enforces rules, administrative directives and regulations, school board policies, and local, state and federal regulations.
- Articulates and facilitates the implementation of the mission and values of the Albuquerque Public Schools.
- Safeguards confidentiality of privileged information.
- Prepares and maintains accurate and complete records and reports as required by law, state directives, District policy and administrative regulations.
- Shares the responsibility for the supervision and care of District inventory, proper and safe use of facilities, equipment and supplies, and reports safety hazards promptly.
- Maintains professional relationships and works cooperatively with employees, the community and other professionals.
- Maintains professional competence through individual and staff training, in-service educational activities and self-selected professional growth activities.
- Attends and/or conducts staff meetings and participates on committees within area of responsibility.
- Performs other tasks related to area of responsibilities as requested or assigned by an immediate supervisor.

- Flexibility, organization, decision-making and problem solving skills.
- Interpersonal skills with diverse populations in-person and on the telephone.
- Ability to meet deadlines and work on multiple projects.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Licensure based on State Department of Education Regulation No. 90-5
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Experience with educational equipment preferred.
