Great Prairie Area Education Agency has an opening for a Speech-Language Assistant / Evaluation Assistant. 

 

181-Day Contract (7-hour days) beginning with the 2025-2026 school year.

 

Starting pay: $16.89-$17.39 per hour with a generous paid leave package in addition to a monthly cafeteria plan allotment of $861 and IPERS retirement.

 

This position will serve Region 1

 

Region 1: Albia, Centerville, Chariton, Moravia, Seymour, Wayne.

 

 

SPEECH LANGUAGE ASSISTANT 

 

Position Overview:

 

The Speech-Language Assistant provides articulation, language, voice and fluency services to students as specified by the assigned Speech-Language Pathologist.

 

Qualifications:

 

The Speech-Language Assistant must be at least 18 years of age and hold a high school diploma or its equivalent.  The candidate must have the experience or capacity to demonstrate positive interpersonal skills, cooperative teamwork, and excellent written and verbal communication.

 

Responsibilities:

  1. Implements speech-language activities as directed by the Speech-Language Pathologist.
  2. Identifies and records correct/incorrect student responses.
  3. Maintain communication with assigned Speech-Language Pathologist on an ongoing basis.
  4. Assists Speech-Language Pathologist in material preparation.
  5. Participates in parent/teacher conferences or staffings as requested by the Speech-Language Pathologist.
  6. Maintains confidentiality of all student information.
  7. Maintains data required for use in local school district (LEA), AEA, state and federal reporting.
  8. Assumes such other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned by the assigned Speech-Language Pathologist and the Regional Special Education Director.
  9. Participate in staff development opportunities as requested by the assigned Speech-Language Pathologist and the Regional Director.

Physical Requirements:

  1. Ability to travel between schools/sites served.
  2. Normal, routine levels of activity related to bending, carrying, climbing, hearing, lifting, reaching, sitting, standing, vision and walking, and may also involve above-average levels of activity at times that can't always be anticipated.

 

EVALUATION ASSISTANT

 

Position Overview:


The Evaluation Assistant shall conduct student screening and assessment activities under the
supervision of a designated certificated employee (e.g., School Psychologist). The Evaluation
Assistant may provide these activities for all members of the core team(s). Assessment and
screening activities shall be limited to those activities in which the individual has been
specifically trained. The Evaluation Assistant may support a virtual certified employee’s access
to student’s, district staff, or other access as needed.


Qualifications:

  • Applicant must be at least 18 years of age and hold a high school diploma.
  • The candidate must have the experience or capacity to demonstrate positive interpersonal skills, cooperative teamwork, and excellent written and verbal communications.


Essential Functions:

  1. Collect data from existing LEA and AEA records.
  2. Administer and score individual tests and academic probes, which will be interpreted by the appropriate certified AEA staff member.
  3. Observe students in classrooms and other settings to collect anecdotal and systematic information about specific target behaviors and environmental events.
  4. Assist in screening activities as assigned.
  5. Assist with the observation, collection of data and the graphing of progress monitoring information.
  6. Assist with data collection related to research, agency accreditation plans and general supervision.
  7. Provide student information to core team members in a timely fashion.
  8. Assume such other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned by the Administrator and/or Supervisor.


Additional Responsibilities:

 

  1. Participate in projects, committees, meetings or activities to support the mission of the Agency.
  2. Participate in staff development and professional growth activities.
  3. Develop and maintain proper and adequate records and documentation in accordance with federal and state rules and regulations and Agency policies and procedures.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  1. Ability to communicate effectively and maintain effective working relationships with team members, staff and other clients.
  2. Ability to handle information in a confidential manner.
  3. Ability to prioritize and coordinate multiple tasks.
  4. Ability to convey a positive and professional image to students, families and colleagues.
  5. Proficient with computer use for tasks like scoring selected tests, completing word processing activities, and entering data into a spreadsheet, graphing data in Excel.
  6. Ability to use and integrate technology appropriately in daily work which includes, but is not limited to, efficient operation of telephone and voice mail systems, application of basic computer skills to effectively use e-mail, internet and word processing, effective use of Zoom, and the ability to use Google applications.
