Bus Driver Job Description

Key duties include conducting pre- and post-trip vehicle inspections, obeying all traffic laws, assisting passengers (including those with disabilities), and maintaining the cleanliness of the bus.

Responsibilities

• Transportation: Safely pick up and drop off passengers at designated locations and times.
• Safety: Enforce safety rules for passengers, assist those needing help to get on and off, and perform pre- and post-trip vehicle safety inspections.
• Scheduling: Follow assigned routes and adhere to strict time schedules.
• Communication: Communicate with dispatchers via radio regarding delays, accidents, or other issues.
• Maintenance: Perform basic vehicle checks (e.g., fluid levels, tires, lights) and report any mechanical problems to the service manager.
• Cleanliness: Keep the bus clean and sanitary at all times.

Qualifications

• A valid driver's license and a commercial driver's permit (CDL) are required to complete ELDT training.
• School Bus and Passenger endorsements
• May require specific certifications, such as an air brake certification.
• Must have a clean driving record.
• Must have good vision, with or without corrective lenses.
• Must be willing to submit to drug and alcohol screening.
• Good interpersonal skills.
