Position Summary
This position directs the day-to-day operation and development of the men’s hockey program at Albertus Magnus College. The Head Coach is accountable for building and maintaining the requisite roster size and developing a student-athlete recruitment plan to ensure the long-term sustainability of an appropriate roster. The coach implements a strength and conditioning program and manage all practices and games. The position is also responsible for the supervision of assistant coaches.
Qualifications:Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Head Coach
- Develops and implements a recruiting plan to achieve and maintain a roster size adequate for sponsorship of men’s ice hockey in accordance with the College’s enrollment growth strategies.
- Develops and implements a daily practice plan to insure proper preparation for intercollegiate competition.
- In conjunction with the Director of Athletics, works with local facilities and/or municipalities to coordinate practice and/or competition.
- Provides contest preparation by scouting opponents.
- Collaborates with head women’s ice hockey coach for the management of the Learn to Skate program or other youth initiatives within the City of New Haven.
- Promotes the visions and values of Albertus Magnus College by emphasizing the experience and education of each student-athlete as the most important component of intercollegiate athletic participation.
- Supervises assistant coaches and provides feedback for continued growth and development.
- Provides a year-round strength and conditioning program tailored towards the individual sport.
- Represents their program during coaches’ meetings.
- Coordinates fundraising activities to benefit the student-athlete experience for the men's ice hockey program
Qualifications and Education:
- Bachelor’s Degree along with relevant work experience in related educational settings.
- A basic understanding of NCAA Division III rules and regulations regarding the recruitment of student-athletes and participation in intercollegiate athletics is required.
- Current safety certifications (CPR /First Aid, a valid driver’s license) are required.
- A demonstrated commitment to the NCAA Division III philosophy regarding the student-athlete experience
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Outstanding verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated experience as a student-athlete or coach of the sport.
- Knowledge of NCAA Division III rules and regulations, including compliance.
- A demonstrated commitment to the NCAA Division III philosophy regarding the student-athlete experience.
