Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Diesel Mechanic Foreman / Manager to lead our maintenance and repair operations for a fleet of diesel trucks and heavy equipment. This role combines hands-on mechanical work with leadership, scheduling, and shop management responsibilities. The ideal candidate is a strong technician who can manage people, prioritize repairs, and keep equipment safe, reliable, and compliant.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise and lead diesel mechanics and shop personnel
- Perform advanced diagnostics, repairs, and preventative maintenance on diesel trucks and equipment
- Schedule repairs and preventative maintenance to minimize downtime
- Assign work orders and ensure timely, high-quality completion
- Maintain shop organization, cleanliness, and safety standards
- Order parts, manage inventory, and work with vendors
- Ensure compliance with DOT, OSHA, and company policies
- Train and mentor mechanics and apprentices
- Maintain accurate maintenance records and reports
- Communicate with management regarding fleet condition, repair costs, and priorities
Qualifications & Requirements
- 5 years of diesel mechanic experience (heavy-duty preferred)
- Prior foreman, lead mechanic, or shop management experience
- Strong diagnostic skills (electrical, engine, drivetrain, hydraulic systems)
- Knowledge of preventative maintenance programs
- Ability to manage multiple jobs and lead a team
- Valid driver's license (CDL a plus)
- Own tools preferred
- Strong communication and leadership skills
Preferred Experience
- Towing or recovery fleet experience
- DOT inspections and compliance knowledge
- Experience with fleet management software
- Welding and fabrication experience
