The Patient Support / Front Office / Billing & Insurance Specialist is responsible for providing exceptional patient service while supporting the administrative, scheduling, billing, and insurance functions of the eye-care practice.

This position is ideal for an experienced medical office professional who understands the importance of accuracy, organization, confidentiality, and excellent customer service. Prior medical billing and insurance experience is strongly preferred. Eye-care experience is helpful but not required; training will be provided on eye-care terminology, practice procedures, and applicable equipment and workflows.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Serve as a primary point of contact for patients by phone and in person.
  • Greet, check in, and check out patients professionally and efficiently.
  • Schedule and confirm patient appointments.
  • Verify patient demographics, insurance coverage, eligibility, and benefits.
  • Obtain required insurance and patient information.
  • Process medical and/or vision insurance claims accurately.
  • Assist with billing, payment posting, patient balances, and account follow-up.
  • Review claims and assist with resolving billing discrepancies, denials, and unpaid claims.
  • Communicate with insurance companies regarding patient benefits, claims, authorizations, and coverage.
  • Answer patient questions regarding appointments, billing, insurance, and office procedures.
  • Maintain accurate patient records and documentation in the electronic medical record/practice management system.
  • Maintain confidentiality and comply with HIPAA requirements.
  • Assist with referrals, authorizations, records requests, and other administrative functions.
  • Support patient flow and assist clinical staff when needed.
  • Use Microsoft Office and Excel to maintain records, track information, prepare reports, and organize data.
  • Manage multiple priorities while maintaining accuracy in a high-volume patient environment.
  • Perform other administrative duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Prior medical billing and insurance experience required/preferred.
  • Experience in a medical, healthcare, optometry, ophthalmology, or physician office preferred.
  • Strong computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office and Microsoft Excel.
  • Experience working with electronic medical records and/or practice management systems preferred.
  • Strong understanding of medical billing, insurance verification, claims, and patient accounts.
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage a high volume of patients, calls, transactions, and competing priorities.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing to a team environment.
  • Must be able to pass a background check and drug screening.
  • Must be available to work some Saturdays on a rotating schedule.

Schedule

  • Monday–Friday, generally between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.
  • Part-time position with the opportunity to work up to 32 hours per week based on business and patient needs.
  • Rotating Saturdays required.

Training

The practice will provide training on ophthalmic/optometric terminology, eye-care workflows, practice-specific systems, and clinical equipment as applicable to the position.

Compensation

Competitive pay based on experience and qualifications.

Pay: $13.00 - $15.00 per hour
