The main purpose of this position is to increase Einstein's licensing and collaborative relationships with commercialization partners (industry, entrepreneurs, investors). The incumbent is expected to effectively manage a portfolio of life science, biotech and healthcare technologies across the full-life cycle of technology management. The Associate will identify novel intellectual property assets developed at Einstein, solicit new invention disclosures, evaluate technologies for commercial potential, participate in the development of commercial strategies, identify/assess licensees, draft license terms (financial and non-financial), negotiate, execute, and manage license agreements, inclusive of equity-bearing licensing relationships and other high-value initiatives and related projects. • Evaluate Einstein technologies for their commercial/licensing/economic development potential: The incumbent will be expected to combine an understanding of patent law, science/technology, and commercial development with some industry and market experience and financial acumen
  • Source and evaluate potential commercial partners for Einstein intellectual property assets, including start-up and other investment opportunities
  • Draft and negotiate various agreements and term sheets (i.e., license, options, revenue-sharing, inter-institutional, preliminary patent management, confidentiality and collaboration) on behalf of Einstein
  • Diligently shepherd agreements through the negotiation and execution phases, by capturing discussions and intent in written agreements and effectively communicating status updates to investigators and upper management, as needed, on a timely basis
  • Demonstrate ability to serve as lead negotiator in high-profile exclusive license agreements and agreements with start-ups involving equity and shareholder rights agreements
  • Solicit and assess new inventions for intellectual property protection and commercialization
  • Understand Einstein/Montefiore scientific assets from various scientific disciplines and confidently interact with faculty/researchers/clinicians
  • Establish a high level of understanding of Einstein faculty research interests and achievements and communicate and promote the information to form new collaborative opportunities internally and externally
  • Develop and execute innovative strategies for the development/commercialization of technologies and actively market technologies to third parties: For any given technology the incumbent would be expected to develop and implement a marketing strategy.
  • Leverage and establish new relationships with industry/pharma/drug development/regulatory professionals to engage with Office and provide critical feedback and insights into Einstein IP assets to prime them for commercialization
  • Identify potential projects for internal investment and provide project management oversight including selection and criterion processes with the goal of increasing value of Einstein IP and maximizing licensing interest and ROI.
  • Review and prepare office metrics on a quarterly basis and as needed for internal and external reports, such as AUTM.
  • Serve as a general business development resource for Einstein, and, as such, the incumbent may be utilized to perform other Office functions including administrative, general support, novel program development, and internal and external Office awareness program and material development
  • The Associate is expected to collaborate, mentor and train non-senior office members (including interns) regardless of the reporting structure
