POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

Position Overview

The Division of General Internal Medicine of the Albert Einstein College of Medicine invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research position focused on HIV in Central Africa. Albert Einstein College of Medicine leads and manages large cohorts of people living with HIV both locally in the Bronx or abroad in Central Africa. Einstein leads the region of Central Africa’s participation in the International Epidemiology Database to Evaluate AIDS (IeDEA), an international research consortium established in 2006 by the US National Institutes of Health to provide a rich resource for globally diverse HIV data (https://www.iedea.org/). Our team also lead the Einstein/Rwanda/Democratic Republic of Congo Consortium for Research in HIV/HPV/Malignancies funded by NCI and multiple other NIH funded prospective cohorts including cohort of pregnant women living with HIV and their HIV exposed infants. Locally, our team also leads the MACS/WIHS Combined Cohort Study. We are fully embedded in an ideal research environment created by the Einstein-Rockefeller-CUNY Center for AIDS Research (ERC-CFAR), which synergizes the expertise of over 150 outstanding basic, clinical, translational, behavioral, implementation, and public health investigators from three major academic institutions at the forefront of HIV/AIDS research: Albert Einstein College of Medicine (Einstein), Rockefeller University (Rockefeller), and City University of New York (CUNY). This position is designed to bring to the team an early stage investigator with interest and skill to help expand our research endeavor in Central Africa. The successful candidate will join an international multidisciplinary research team and will play a critical role in data analysis, manuscript preparation, and grant writing. Required qualifications include prior research experience in Africa and strong quantitative and writing skills.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

 

The position requires a profound knowledge of Epidemiologic methods including causal inference.

The selected candidate will support implementation of ongoing research projects in Central Africa, including development of study materials, regulatory approvals, data collection and analysis, manuscripts preparation and grant writing. The selected Postdoctoral researcher will be expected to travel regularly to study sites to work with field teams.

 

The selected candidate will spend 75% of their time working on the above-mentioned projects. Other 25% of time will be devoted to professional development.

QUALIFICATIONS

The successful candidate must hold a PhD in Epidemiology, Biostatistics or related fields (earned in 2018 or later) and demonstrated evidence of research productivity such as published and/or accepted manuscripts and conference abstracts. Strong programming skills in SAS, STATA, or R are required. Excellent teamwork skills, cross-cultural sensitivity, and strong interpersonal skills are essential to become part of collaborative work with Einstein-based team located in the Bronx and collaborators in Central African countries, Intermediate or advanced French (spoken, reading, and written) as well as a strong background in HIV research are highly desirable. The Division of General Internal Medicine of the Albert Einstein College of Medicine invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research position focused on pediatric HIV and outcomes of antiretroviral therapy (ART) among pregnant women and their HIV-exposed infants. Albert Einstein College of Medicine leads and manages large cohorts of people living with HIV both locally in the Bronx or abroad in Central Africa. We have ongoing studies in the Democratic republic of Congo and in Rwanda and have been prospectively collecting and collating data on health outcomes among women who started ART because of pregnancy.  This position is designed to bring to the team an early stage investigator with interest and skill to help analyze the data and advance research. The successful candidate will join an international multidisciplinary research team and will play a critical role in data analysis, manuscript preparation, and grant writing. Required qualifications include prior research experience in Africa and strong quantitative and writing skills.
