What are the responsibilities and job description for the Peer Assistant Learning Tutor position at Albert Einstein College of Medicine?
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
List of Responsibilities – List and describe responsibilities in order of importance; adding as many as necessary to fully describe the function of this role.
Tutors will work with 1-3 students to clarify information, review specific course material and encourage effective study skills applicable to all basic science courses.
Tutors are encouraged to stimulate critical thinking, foster an understanding of the "big picture" and help students become active participants in the learning process.
Students who receive tutoring are generally either having academic concerns or " at risk" for failure evidenced by repeated exam or course difficulty.
Tutors receive advisement and training to enhance and prepare for their sessions prior to meeting with students.
Although time and duration may vary, each tutoring sessions are generally 1 1/2 or 2 hours.
Tutors are expected to submit appropriate, accurate paperwork on time.
Tutoring and progress of students receiving services is closely monitored by office.
QUALIFICATIONS
Experience and Educational Background – List both the minimum requirement for hire (degrees, licenses, years of experience) and the preferred or optimal background to succeed in this position.
Must be a currently enrolled M.D. student at Albert Einstein College of Medicine.
Eligible for Federal Work-Study as determined by the Office of Student Finance.
Skills and Competencies – Describe the critical skills and proficiencies necessary to succeed in this position (e.g., technical skills, communication / writing skills, etc).
Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
Ability to manage tasks independently and meet deadlines.
Experience in mentoring, peer education, or student support is preferred.
