Job Summary/ Objective
Performs maintenance on County trails. Routinely patrols County park trails and performs responsible semi-skilled work in the repair and maintenance of trails.

Essential Functions
- Performs routine trail maintenance thru pruning, mowing, clearing, etc.;
- Performs trail construction of new trails along with re-routes and re-alignments of existing trail sections as required;
- Trail sign installation and maintenance;
- Clearing down trees from County trails after storms;
- Routinely monitors County park trails to identify maintenance/safety issues;
- Operates power equipment and a variety of hand tools;
- Provides information and assistance to park users and seeks voluntary compliance with park rules and regulations;
- Collect suggestions and recommendations from trail users;
- Other duties as assigned.
- Knowledge of the safe use, operation and preventive maintenance of common automotive and mechanical equipment;
- Knowledge of traffic laws and regulations;
- Knowledge of the occupational hazards and necessary safety precautions involved in equipment operation;
- Ability to perform manual labor for extended periods occasionally under unfavorable weather conditions.
- Experience in the operation of automotive equipment and the performance of manual labor;
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Must possess a valid Virginia driver's license.
- Work frequently requires strenuous physical tasks, including bending, stooping, lifting and carrying items weighing 20 to 50 pounds.
- Employee is frequently exposed to driving and sitting in a vehicle for extended periods of time;
- Operation of mowing equipment both riding and walking over rough terrain;
- Regular walking, biking and all-terrain vehicle operation over difficult terrain;
- Requires working outside in adverse weather;
- Flexible hours including weekends and holidays as needed;
- Regular contact with park employees and volunteers;
- Frequent contact with the public.
