Oversees the Summer Research Fellowship between years 1 and 2 and collaborates with the Office of the Dean, Graduate Studies Program, Senior Associate Dean of Academic Administration, and the Office of Financial Aid.
Oversees the Nalin Grant for scholarship to benefit communities internationally in conjunction with AMHS Foundation and develops other Alumni sponsored opportunities for students in research or scholarly activity.
Oversees the Medical Student Investigation (MSI) day to showcase, highlight and share medical student research and scholarly activity with our community at large, alumni. Coordinates Faculty participation as Judges to evaluate and provide feedback to students on their abstracts and presentation skills.
Ensures students are supported for presentations of their research and/or scholarly activity at regional, national and international conferences and publication of their research or scholarly activity in conjunction with the Office of the Senior Associate Dean of Academic Administration.
Serves as a community liaison with other educational and research institutions in the region including but not limited to the Albany Stratton VA Medical Center, NYS Department of Health, Union College, RPI and Siena College.
Co-Directs the Senior Research Elective and Serves as a small group leader/facilitator for HCS in year 1.
Serves as an Instructor/Educator throughout the curriculum (i.e., small group facilitator in Phase 1 TBLs based on specialty/areas of expertise, CSK small group instructor, etc.) and other opportunities to teach as requested.
Experience:
Medical Degree (MD/DO) or Doctor of Philosophy (PhD)
Have experience in providing support, advise, guidance and assisting students in their pursuit of research and scholarly activity in parallel with their medical education.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with a documented ability to interact with AMC Students, Faculty and Staff as well as with other institutions where students may seek research opportunities locally, regionally, or nationally.
Excellent writing and presentation skills.
Demonstrate track record in research and track record in peer-reviewed publication to serve as a role model for students in their own respective field/discipline.
Experience in health care education and not only research but also scholarly activities including Advocacy, Bioethics, Service, Nutrition, Climate health and Health Systems Analysis or Health Care Management as MD with Distinction Tracks as well as other tracks such as public health or medical education.
