Summary

Under general supervision, responsible for multiple educational, developmental and training functions including: provision of clinical education to undergraduate nursing students, mentoring and coaching of new graduate nurseemployees, manages the ANMC education and training center; coordinates, develops and presents classroom trainings to improve quality andeffectiveness in health care delivery. Evaluates curriculum to ensure relevancy and evidence.

Responsibilities

Collaborates on a local, state, regional and national level with other educators and administrators to strive for best practices in the organization. As a part of ANTHC’s Clinical Education program, studies facility processes and recommends best practice changes.

R eviews, disseminates and implements policy changes at ANMC and rural facilities. Ensures compliance with national standards to maintain Training Center status as required by the program administration manual. Evaluates and develops all training center staff in their role as instructors and is responsible for maintenance of their requirements.

W orks jointly with nursing leadership and staff, across departments to plan develop, implement, facilitate and evaluate educational programs for all levels of nursing personnel. Mentors’ new nurses and provides orientation, and continuing education when requested .

A ssesses training needs; designs, develops, implements, evaluates and revises clinical education programs; consults with staff to define needs and suggest solutions. Delivers training for clinical staff utilizing appropriate training methods, adult learning concepts and facilitation skills. Assures that training programs are results-oriented and return value to the organization. Reviews changes in clinical technology, procedures, program services and policy-mandated courses; develops revised training content to meet new objectives; updates training content and schedule. Researches, analyzes and evaluates new training materials. Develops, improves and updates course content and instructional methods. Prepares and coordinates the development of training programs and materials. Performs program planning, development and implementation; program monitoring and evaluation; budget planning and monitoring; contract coordination and administration.

T hroughout the semester, serves as the clinical faculty for Alaska Pacific University (APU) prelicensure nursing students. Coordinates and collaborates with APU faculty by, educating, and assessing nursing student skills, knowledge, and clinical judgement.

M aintains communication with the interprofessional teams in the healthcare setting, nursing faculty and students assigned to the clinical learning experience at ANMC.

D esigns innovative learning strategies and opportunities for students in the clinical setting while maintaining the ANMC policy and procedures.

P repares, administers, and scores evaluative tools; provides necessary records on students to support credentialing and accreditation. Assists with maintaining a comprehensive database and related documentation as required by program. Researches files to obtain requested information, insert additional data, and check accuracy of documents. Counsels students and provides special help as needed.

P articipates in committee and program development work to assist in coordinating training methods and techniques. Participates in continuing education as necessary to meet changing program needs and to maintain necessary competency and professional skills.

  • K nowledge of adult learning principles and effective presentation techniques.

  • S kill in establishing and modifying priorities and ability to plan, coordinate, and implement priorities in a changing complex environment to meet organizational goals. Skill in utilizing internet and intranet resources including search engines, healthcare literature databases, and web page development and design.
  • S kill in forecasting expenses to be included in annual budget requests and maintaining equipment inventory, maintenance, and training proper usage to ensure anticipated service life is met.
  • S kill in the instruction of others regarding the safe operation of resuscitation equipment, and the identification and resolution of malfunctions.
  • S kill in professional oral and written communication.
  • S kill in facilitating groups for conflict resolution, group processes, and team building.
  • S kill in process improvement and change management.
  • S kill in interpreting and analyzing patient care issues and regulations to develop training programs.
  • S kill in planning, organizing, scheduling and conducting in-service training classes.
  • S kill in researching, analyzing, evaluating, and dissemination of new training materials.
  • S kill in evaluating healthcare issues, and making recommendations based on observations.
  • S kill in establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships.

M INIMUM EDUCATION QUALIFICATION

Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing or related field.

mInimum Experience Qualification

Non-supervisory - Three (3) years of clinical care experience in area of specialty which demonstrates leadership skills and ability to work within a team environment, effective communication, interpersonal and organizational skills, data analysis and research interpretation skills, training skills, and computer/word processing skills.

M INIMUM CERTIFICATION QUALIFICATION

  • C urrent registered nurse license in the State of Alaska Current AHA Basic Life Support card.
  • C urrent AHA ACLS and PALS provider card; or be eligible to obtain these certifications within three (3) months from date of hire.
