Summary:
Under general direction assesses, treats and evaluates patients who require specialized occupational therapy services in collaboration with physicians, other healthcare providers, and patient/family. Increases a patient’s quality of life through participation in ADL and IADL by maximizing functional use of the upper extremities through therapeutic activities, exercise, manual therapy, orthotic fabrication and training, use of modalities and additional customized treatment programs.
Responsibilities:
Provides evaluation, assessment, and treatment of occupational therapy patients in an accurate and timely manner. Documents evaluation outcomes, findings and treatments. Maintains statistical information of referrals and treatments.
Orders, evaluates and provides durable medical equipment/devices based on needs of patient. Educates patient/family with therapeutic exercises, activities and equipment.
Participates in care conferences and rounds. Educates staff on occupational therapy issues. Represents the organization at community and professional events.
Supervises, trains and delegates activities of support staff, interns and volunteers. Develops staff skills and training plans. Provides patient, family and community education. Acts as clinical instructor for student occupational therapists; provides educational opportunities for volunteers to observe; and promotes the field of occupational therapy.
Adheres to the regulatory and practice standards of occupational therapy.
Performs other duties as assigned.

· Knowledge to manage daily schedule, to include timely completion of daily documentation and billing charges.

· Knowledge of advanced surgical techniques and postoperative therapy programs.

· Skill in fabricating custom upper extremity splints and orthoses.
· Skill in the application and use of upper extremity orthoses, supports and assistive aids.

· Skill in critical thinking in the performance of occupational therapy.
· Skill in establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with others.
MINIMUM EDUCATION QUALIFICATION
A Bachelor's degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited college program.
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATION
Non-supervisory - Three (3) years of clinical occupational therapist experience, including 4,000 hours or more in hand therapy.
MINIMUM CERTIFICATION QUALIFICATION
· Must possess a current State of Alaska Occupational Therapy License OR a current Occupational Therapist License in another state and must obtain an Alaska Occupational Therapist License within 6 months of hire.
· Must be a Certified Hand Therapist (CHT) or actively pursuing Certified Hand Therapist (CHT).
· Must possess current Basic Life Support certification.
· NBCOT registration must be current.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Depending on the needs of the organization , some incumbents in this job class may be required to obtain additional certifications or training in one or more specialty areas.
