Summary

Under limited supervision, assesses plans, develops, implements and evaluates the nutritional needs of inpatients and outpatients for the Alaska Native Medical Center.

Responsibilities

ALL

S ome duties listed must be completed by a licensed dietitian. Work performed prior to receiving a license must be verified by a licensed dietitian.

D evelops nutrition care plans for patients and families in coordination with all members of the health care team with short-term and long-term goals. Care plans will be documented in patient’s medical record.

I dentifies educational needs of the patient and family and provides culturally sensitive nutrition counseling and education that is patient-directed, patient focused and specifically relevant to the expressed needs of the patient and family.

P rovides data on procedures, consultations, appointments, interventions, results and outcomes as needed.

D ocuments pertinent patient medical information for optimal nutritional care.

W orks closely with nurse case managers and members of the entire care team to ensure that adequate and appropriate nutrition provisions are supplied to patients as needed.

P articipates in medical rounds and multidisciplinary committees. Performs other duties as assigned.

A NMC DIETITIAN II

A cts as a resource person and provides technical assistance in the development and implementation of clinical protocols, including baseline measures and intervention strategies and effective educational techniques and programs.

S erves as preceptor and mentor to dietetic interns.

M entors Dietitian I.

A NMC DIETITIAN III

A ssists with on-boarding new staff and dietetic interns.

M entors Dietitians I & II with supportive guidance and feedback.

M anages schedules and time keeping as needed by management.

Knowledge of normal nutrition throughout life cycle, food and drug interaction, nutrition risk factors of disease.

Knowledge of nutrition support including managing patients receiving enteral and parenteral nutrition.

Knowledge of the cultural, social and economic characteristics of Alaska Native people.

Knowledge of clinical, pathologic, radiological and laboratory studies.

Knowledge of effective and diverse teaching principles and processes in planning and providing health care.

Knowledge of family counseling, guidance and health instruction.

Knowledge of TJ C nutrition standards.

Knowledge in Statistical analysis techniques and standards.

Knowledge of applicable federal, state, tribal and local regulations and programs.

Skill in working independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary health care team.

Skill conducting group education programs or one-on-one counseling.

Skill in oral and written communication.

Skill in collecting, interpreting and evaluating clinical data to determine clinical health status.

Skill in program techniques of development.

Skill in presenting information to public groups.

Skill in assessing and prioritizing multiple tasks, projects and demands.

Skill in operating a personal computer utilizing a variety of software applications.

MINIMUM EDUCATION QUALIFICATION

R egistered Dietitians certified before January 1, 2024, need a Bachelor’s degree in Food and Nutrition or related field with completion of dietetic internship. Those certified on or after this date must hold a Master’s degree and meet the same requirements.

MINIMUM CERTIFICATION QUALIFICATION

S tate of Alaska Dietitian License required within six (6) months of hire. Registered Dietitian with the Commission on Dietetic Registration required within six (6) months of hire.

ANMC DIETITIAN II

O ne board-certified nutritionally relevant credential including but not limited to Certified Nutrition Support Clinician (CNSC) with the National Board of Nutrition Support Certification or Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist (CDCES) through the Certification Board for Diabetes Care and Education, Specialist in Pediatric Nutrition (CSP), Renal (CSR), Gerontological Gerontolgocial (CSG), Pediatric Critical Care (CSPCC), Oncology (CSO), Obesity and Weight Management (CSOWM), Advanced Practitioner Certification in Clinical Nutrition (RD-AP).

A NMC DIETITIAN III
