Reports to: Director of Grants Management and Compliance

Position Type: Full-time, Non-exempt (Eligible for Overtime)

Compensation Band: Band 2 – Program Coordinator ($65,000-$93,600 depending on experience)

Position Overview


AML seeks a Grants and Procurement Coordinator to support communities in accessing and managing public and private funding. This role focuses primarily on grant writing and development, with added value placed on experience in procurement, contracting, and compliance. The ideal candidate will be an excellent communicator, highly organized, and motivated to help Alaska’s communities compete successfully for federal, state, and philanthropic funding.


Key Responsibilities

  • Research, identify, and track funding opportunities that align with community and AML priorities.
  • Write, edit, and prepare compelling, competitive grant applications and supporting documents.
  • Provide technical assistance to municipalities, Tribal governments, and state agencies throughout the grant lifecycle—from opportunity identification to post-award compliance.
  • Support community outreach and engagement to strengthen local capacity in grant and procurement processes.
  • Translate complex program requirements into clear, actionable steps for communities and partners.
  • Develop and review budgets, scopes of work, and procurement documentation to ensure alignment with funding guidelines.
  • Assist with proposal coordination, internal review, and submission logistics.
  • Maintain organized records of funding opportunities, applications, and outcomes.
  • Contribute to AML’s development of grant resources, toolkits, and templates to streamline future applications.
  • Participate in AML workshops and webinars on community planning, grant writing, and procurement best practices.
  • Conduct research on emerging trends in infrastructure, energy, transportation, workforce, and related sectors.


Qualifications


Education:

  • Associate’s degree in a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and professional experience.


Experience:

  • Minimum of two years of professional experience in grant writing, technical writing, or program development.
  • Experience with procurement, contracting, or compliance processes is strongly preferred.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of federal, state, Tribal, and private grant programs, and related compliance and reporting requirements.
  • Strong writing and editing skills with demonstrated success in developing winning proposals.
  • Ability to interpret financial data and prepare budgets and procurement documentation.
  • Skilled in research, organization, and time management with attention to detail.
  • Competence in Microsoft Office, and grant-tracking or project management tools.
  • Cultural awareness and ability to work effectively with Alaska’s diverse communities, including rural and remote areas.
  • Capacity to work independently while contributing to a collaborative, mission-driven team.


Work Environment

This position primarily operates in an office environment, with occasional travel to Alaska communities for meetings, training, or outreach. Travel may include visits to remote locations and require adaptability to variable conditions.
