What are the responsibilities and job description for the Medical Billing & Coding Specialist position at ALASKA COLORECTAL SURGERY, P.C.?
We’re excited to share that our clinic is looking for a skilled Medical Billing & Coding Specialist to join our team!
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee billing operations: charge entry, claims, payment posting, AR, denials, appeals, refunds
- Manage revenue cycle to reduce AR days, minimize denials, and maximize collections
- Act as coding expert (CPT, ICD-10, HCPCS) and ensure compliance
- Review and resolve claim rejections; implement process improvements
- Partner with physicians, staff, and hospitals to ensure accurate documentation
- Conduct audits to maintain billing accuracy and compliance
- Report AR, denials, collections, and other key metrics to Administrator
- Stay current on payer rules and billing regulations
- Collaborate with AthenaOne/EMR support for workflow optimization
- Ensure HIPAA and compliance standards in all billing processes
Required Qualifications:
- AthenaOne experience
- Proven billing/coding experience in a physician or surgical practice
- Strong knowledge of revenue cycle and AR management
- Track record of reducing denials and improving collections
- Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and proactive problem solver
- Strong communication skills with physicians, staff, hospitals, and payers
- Ability to analyze data and present insights
- Able to work independently, meet deadlines, and manage priorities
Preferred Qualifications:
- CPC (Certified Professional Coder)

Pay: $28.00 - $30.00 per hour
