Quality Control & Restoration Technician

ALAS Underground, LLC
Granite, IL Full Time
POSTED ON 7/24/2026
AVAILABLE BEFORE 11/20/2026

We put the conduit in the ground that fiber cable runs through. When a bore or trench is done, somebody has to go back, look it over, and make sure it was done right — and when the work tore up somebody's yard, driveway, or sprinkler line, somebody has to make it right. That's you.

You're the last set of eyes on our work and the face of the company when a homeowner has a problem. You'll split your time between checking completed jobs, repairing damage and restoring property, and hauling materials and drill equipment between the warehouse and job sites. A lot of this work is solo, so we need somebody who can manage their own day and doesn't need babysitting.

What You'll Do

  • Quality checks — Drive out to finished jobs and walk them: handholes set and level, conduit capped and proofed, trenches backfilled without settling, job site cleaned up, work matching the map.
  • Restoration and repairs — Fix what construction tore up — fill and level settled trenches, lay dirt, seed, and straw, patch concrete and asphalt, repair sprinkler lines, fences, mailboxes, and landscaping.
  • Callbacks — When a homeowner, property owner, or GC calls about a completed job, you go back out, look at it, and fix it. You represent ALAS at people's homes — stay professional and courteous, even when they're not happy.
  • Materials hauling — Pick up conduit, handholes, tools, and supplies at the warehouse and get them to the crews on the job site.
  • Equipment transport — Load, secure, and haul drill rigs and heavy equipment between the yard and job sites. Proper tie-down and securement every single time — no shortcuts.
  • Photo documentation — Take before-and-after photos of every QC walk and every repair in the Raken app. If it's not in Raken with photos, it didn't happen.
  • Damage reporting — If you find damage to a utility, property, or anything else on a job — or cause it — it gets reported the same day. No sitting on it.
  • Truck and trailer upkeep — Keep your truck and trailer clean, fueled, and maintained. Report mechanical problems before they become breakdowns.

What You Need

  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.

Bonus Points

  • CDL (Class A preferred) — lets you legally haul our bigger drill rigs and moves you to the top of the pile.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish — most of our crews speak both.
  • Experience in underground utility construction — boring, trenching, locates/811, handholes, as-builts.
  • Concrete and asphalt patching or landscaping/restoration experience.

Schedule & Work Conditions

Full-time, Monday through Friday, with occasional early starts and the odd Saturday when a callback can't wait. Outdoor work in all weather. Job sites across Missouri and Illinois — expect windshield time.

  • Able to safely load, secure, and tow trailers and heavy equipment.
  • Comfortable with physical work — lifting 50 lbs, shoveling, raking, concrete work, being outside in Missouri and Illinois weather year-round.
  • Basic hand-tool and repair skills — you know your way around a shovel, a tamper, a concrete mix, and a sprinkler fitting, or you can learn fast.
  • Comfortable using a smartphone app for photos and reports.
  • Reliable and self-directed — you'll be trusted to run your own route most days.
  • Able to talk with homeowners and property owners respectfully and keep your cool.
