Who We Are

ALARA Logistics is a small, privately owned company experiencing a period of both growth and maturity. We are a specialized logistics company headquartered in Houston, TX, with additional offices in Australia and South Korea. We focus on all phases of transportation including high-consequence material, difficult-to-transport cargo, oil-industry projects, and hazardous cargo from conception to production. We have a small team (15-20 people in Houston) of professionals with specialized experience and licenses in the transportation industry, as well as administrative and warehouse staff.

Who You Are

This role is a great fit for someone who has worked in a start-up or other growth environment, or who has experience in a larger company both national and international. You will be honest, accountable, and knowledgeable with the ability to perform in this role with a high level of discretion and professionalism. You will be well versed in accounting principles and finance both nationally and internationally.

We offer a casual office environment and offer a hybrid schedule with one work from home day per week after you have been acclimated with the company.

 

Summary

Summary/Objective

The Finance Controller will be responsible for managing the finances, financial records, preparing financial reports, and overseeing budgeting and forecasting for our national and international locations.

Job Description

Role and Responsibilities
 
  • Manage all accounting operations including Billing, A/R, A/P, GL and Counsel, Cost Accounting, Inventory Accounting and Revenue Recognition
  • Coordinate and direct the preparation of the budget and financial forecasts and report variances.
  • Preparing detailed monthly financial reports on the company’s performance.
  • Coordinate the preparation of regulatory reporting.
  • Research technical accounting issues for compliance
  • Supervises the company’s financial operations.
  • Develops the company’s annual financial plans and projections.
  • Preparing monthly financial reports, performing account reconciliations & maintaining the general ledger. Ensuring that all auditing and internal control processes are conducted properly.
  • Analytical review and analysis of financial data and generate monthly trend reports and balance sheet reconciliations ensuring financial statement accuracy and investigating variances.
  • Prepare and reconcile all bank accounts resolving any discrepancies.
  • Oversee and support accounting team with dynamic leadership that creates an environment of trust and productivity.
  • This role will also require you to support various ad hoc projects with the ability to influence senior leadership team and analyze scenarios with a solution-orientated mindset, as they arise.
  • Strong knowledge of IFRS (International Financial Reporting Standards) and GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles).
  • Ascertaining compliance with local, state, and federal government laws and reporting requirements and tax filings.
  • Support month-end and year-end close process
  • Ensure quality control over financial transactions and financial reporting.
  • Develop and document business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls.
  • Additional controller duties as necessary

Education and Experience
 
  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, finance, or a related field required. Master’s degree preferred.
  • Thorough understanding of national and international financial logistics processes
  • Two or more years of overall combined education, accounting, and finance experience
  • Thorough knowledge of accounting principles and procedures
  • Experience with creating financial statements.
  • Experience with general ledger functions and the month-end/year end close process
  • Excellent accounting software user and administration skills
  • In-depth knowledge of corporate finance and accounting principles, laws, and best practices
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficient in QuickBooks or related software and MS Office

Preferred Experience
  • Master’s degree (or equivalent experience) in accounting, business accounting, or finance
  • Professional certification (ex: Certified Public Accountant) preferred.
