Duties
- Conduct thorough inspections of chimneys, fireplaces, and venting systems to identify issues such as blockages, damage, or code violations
- Perform cleaning procedures using specialized hand tools and power tools to remove soot, creosote buildup, and debris
- Repair or replace damaged masonry components including bricks, mortar, rebar installation, and flashing to restore structural integrity
- Install new chimney caps, liners, crowns, and other components following blueprints and schematics
- Utilize heavy equipment operation skills when necessary for large-scale restoration or demolition projects
- Read and interpret construction schematics and blueprints to ensure precise repairs and installations
- Apply finishing techniques such as caulking, plastering, stucco work, and tile laying for aesthetic improvements or restoration projects
- Maintain detailed records of work performed, materials used, and safety inspections in compliance with industry standards
Requirements
- 18 years of age or older with a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
- Ability to work at heights safely on roofs or scaffolding
Desired Skills
- Proven experience in construction-related fields such as masonry, roofing, carpentry, or renovation projects involving chimneys or similar structures
- Skilled in concrete forming, concrete finishing, rebar installation, metal stud framing, framing carpentry, trim carpentry, plastering, stucco application, tile laying, caulking and restoration techniques
- Proficient with hand tools (hammers, chisels), power tools (drills, saws), welding equipment and heavy machinery operation as needed
- Ability to read blueprints and schematics accurately to guide repair or installation processes
- Strong knowledge of construction estimating practices to assess project scope and material needs
- Familiarity with building codes related to chimney safety standards and ventilation systems
- Excellent problem-solving skills with attention to detail in a construction site environment
