JOB DESCRIPTION: CERTIFIED ATHLETIC TRAINER/CTE INSTRUCTOR

Alamosa High School is seeking an Athletic Trainer and/or CTE instructor for Athletic Training/Wellness classes. This can be a combined position or 2 separate positions. A staff member responsible for directly assisting students and staff in the sports department.

Qualifications

  • Certified Athletic Trainer, license established by CDE/DORA and CPR certified
  • BA/MA in Athletic Training, Sports Wellness, or equivalent experience and education.
  • Experience as an CTE Athletic Training Instructor preferred
  • Ability to obtain a CTE certification from the State of Colorado
  • Experience teaching Secondary and/or Higher Education
  • Excellent Communication skills

Job Description

Responsible for the design and maintenance of an athletic training program at Alamosa High School including stocking, updating, safety, inventory, cleanliness and a professional atmosphere. To facilitate learning by all students, in a standards-based classroom and other educational environments, that will promote higher levels of student achievement by providing an environment conducive to learning that upholds the ideals of collaboration to ensure the highest levels of professionalism. This course work will be Concurrent Enrollment with Adams State University.

Responsibilities And Duties

  • Develop a program for evaluation, treatment, rehabilitation and prevention of athletic related injuries for athletes in all sports.
  • In coordination with the athletic director, develop an emergency plan by procedure for on field management and off-site management.
  • Develop and maintain a system for injury recording on all athletes that has lock and key for confidentiality.
  • Establish coverage of training room, practices, home (when ATC cannot attend) and away games and Alamosa High School sport camps in coordination with the athletic director. The assigned ATC, athletic director and AHS administrator will discuss priority of coverage to include varsity and other high school sports. Transportation will be provided to away events.
  • Establish a line of communication among parents, student athletes, physician, coach and athletic director via injury reports, phone calls or meetings.
  • Work to educate student athletes, parents and coaches to injury care and prevention through daily communication, and health classes.
  • Develop a budget for supplies within the allotted budget given by Alamosa High School District and the athletic director.
  • Maintain an accurate inventory of all supplies.
  • ATCs would attend all pre-season meetings scheduled for parents and student athletes in conjunction with sport banquets/awards to create a high profile among the students and parents.
  • The athletic trainer is a source for referrals to medical providers through:
    • Works as a liaison between the team physician and the sports medicine center to answer patient questions.
    • Is professional and competent in handling injury situations.
    • Hosts educational clinics for student athletes, parents and coaches as necessary.
  • Develop a student trainer program to further the interest in athletic training and the NATA and sponsor the school HOSA student chapter.
  • Teach classes aligning with sports in our AHS career pathways in conjunction with helping students prepare for future job opportunities related to athletic training.
  • Design and implement relevant curriculum following the CTE Model Curriculum Standards for the given pathway.
  • Provide instruction that is appropriately paced and directed to skills deemed appropriate for this CTE sector.
  • Records and maintains accurate/complete students grades as required by district policies and administrative regulations.
  • Effectively communicate with students, parents and staff members as appropriate.
  • Demonstrated effective classroom management strategies.
  • Other duties as assigned.
