JOB SUMMARY: Provides semi-skilled work in performing a variety of building maintenance repairs, including the installation, maintenance and service of electrical, plumbing, mechanical and structural systems.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Replaces/repairs electrical components, plumbing fixtures, roof leaks and ceiling tiles. Also performs general carpentry and structural repairs.
- Paints interior and exterior walls, trim work and surfaces using brushes, spray guns or paint rollers. Also tapes and floats sheetrock.
- Performs inspections of facilities/minor projects and creates punch lists. Also attends meetings and fills out warranty request forms.
- Provides support to build new storage space, office space, hallways, sidewalks, retaining walls, etc.
- Inspects rooftops, walls, walkways, light fixtures, streets, entry gates, doors, windows, drains, etc., for preventive maintenance needs.
- Supports the recycling of electrical and other building components.
- Monitors inventory by stocking and tracking general maintenance supplies and paint materials.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Graduation from high school or a General Education Development (GED) Certificate.
- Three years of general building maintenance experience.
PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- A certificate of completion in building maintenance or related skill trades and more than three years of experience.
REQUIRED LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS:
- Must possess and maintain a valid Texas driver license. Must be insurable through the organization’s insurers.
- Must have a valid State of Texas Maintenance Electrician License or City of San Antonio Technician License, and must be kept current at all times.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of electrical safety practices.
- Knowledge of National Electrical Code (NEC), National Fire Protection Agency (NFPA), National Labor Standards Council (NLSC), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).
- Knowledge of recognized local and state electrical requirements.
- Ability to follow written and oral directions.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, faculty, and the public.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED: None
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Physical requirements include lifting/pushing/pulling up to 75 lbs. and moving up to 1,000 lbs. with assistance. May be required to work in attics and under buildings; subject to electrical, mechanical, and chemical hazards and/or inclement weather conditions; may be exposed to dust and fumes. This position requires emergency response duties on a 24/7 basis.
