SALARY RANGE: $75,000 - $87,000 Annual

POSITION SUMMARY:

This is a full-time field-based position responsible for all aspects of facility and event security operations. The Security Supervisor is responsible for supervising day-to-day security activities, overseeing security staff and contractors, responding to incidents, and ensuring the safety of guests, staff, tenants, and assets throughout the Alameda County Fairgrounds.

This position requires familiarity with industry security standards and protocols, strong leadership skills, and the ability to make sound decisions in a fast-paced environment. The Security Supervisor is expected to maintain a visible presence throughout the property and provide leadership during events, emergencies, and high activity periods.

Regular evenings, weekends, holidays and event coverage is an essential function of this position. Candidates should be dedicated to making safety and security a top priority while enhancing the guest experience.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

• Evaluate and manage current security program including but not limited to staffing, contractor(s), procedures, expectations, coverage/shifts, etc.
• Enact a systematic approach to securing the Fairgrounds as private property at all times
• Regularly survey facility and identify necessary improvements to strengthen security
• Implement a recruiting, training, and development strategy for in-house security staff
• Identify and build-out equipment inventory for staff and contractor use
• Work with Events Department to develop comprehensive security strategies and staffing levels to appropriately serve the needs of interim events
• Act as on-site lead during key events
• Act as liaison between Association and local law enforcement agencies
• Conduct regular patrols of the Fairgrounds, event venues, parking lots, RV park, and related facilities
• Respond to security incidents, guest concerns, emergencies, disturbances, trespass violations, and after-hours operational issues
• Provide direct field supervision of security staff and contractors during evenings, weekends, holidays and special events
• Schedule, deploy and monitor security staffing levels based on operational and event needs
• Serve as the on-scene security lead for events, emergencies and major incidents
• Act as Incident Commander until relieved by management, law enforcement, fire personnel, or emergency responders
• Investigate security incidents and prepare detailed reports and documentation
• Maintain an on-call presence for critical incidents as assigned
• Conduct routine inspections of security equipment, gates, fencing, access controls, cameras, lighting and alarm systems
• Assist with emergency preparedness planning, drills and training exercises
• Develop and maintain strong working relationships with local law enforcements, fire, EMS and public safety partners
• Deploy and maintain equipment such as walkthrough metal detectors, hand wands, radios, etc.
• Work closely with law enforcement agencies to coordinate event security strategies and protocols
• Attend industry conferences and trainings as needed and determined by Management
• Create and document security and incident reports for all guard activity
• Act as main point of contact for security needs and concerns
• Manage and coordinate gate security during annual Fair
• Expand upon and monitor safety and security upgrades such as surveillance cameras
• Learn and expand existing Workplace Safety Program
• Develop and manage processes and procedures for visitor verification and check-in
• Support RV Campgrounds and Storage with rule enforcement and evictions as needed

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

• Four (4) years work experience in security services
• One (1) year experience in a leadership or supervisory role
• Experience with facility or event security
• Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, holidays and special events
• Demonstrate experience in supervising security operations during large public events
• Experience responding to emergencies and managing incidents in a public venue environment.
• Ability to exercise sound judgment and remain calm under pressure.
• Strong conflict resolution and de-escalation skills
• Ability to interact professionally with guests, tenants, vendors, staff, public safety agencies and event promoters
• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and walk extensive distances throughout the Fairgrounds
• Overall Professional demeanor
• Possess a California Guard Card (BSIS) or ability to qualify within first six (6) months of employment
• Ability to assess and evaluate situations effectively
• Ability to identify critical issues quickly and accurately
• Experience working with and leading a team
• Ability to work independently
• Possess effective communication and listening skills
• Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, law enforcement related studies or four (4) years’ experience related field in lieu of degree
• Ability to lift 40 pounds, stand 80% of the shift and walk long distances
• Have and maintain a valid California Driver’s License with a record which qualifies to be on Fairgrounds drivers’ insurance
