Qualifications and Job Description
  • Masters in Education or field of instruction, NC Certification/License in Special Education
    • Reports to the Principal & Assistant Principal
    • Read The First Six Weeks of School & the the middle school Responsive Advisory Meeting book and is familiar with elementary and middle school Responsive Classroom practices
    • Strives to implement by instruction and action the school’s philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectives
    • Maintains open communications with students, staff and families
    • Conducts research and stays informed of curriculum and instruction best practices, trends, and educational innovations
    • Assists in the development, writing, and implementation of the IDEA Grant
    • Assists in ensuring compliance with state/federal rules and regulations
    • Ensures compliance on all monthly time and effort sheets and sends them to the Principal for review and signature
    • Ensures that all federal documentation regarding the IDEA Grant and the Time and Effort sheets are digitally organized and completed for all federal audits
    • Oversees all EC audits to ensure federal compliance and informs the Principal, Assistant Principal, and Managing Director of progress, concerns, etc.
    • Attends regional and state EC meetings and updates administration and staff regarding any new or changes in EC legislation, guidelines, processes, and best practices
    • Conducts student observations required for eligibility determination, as needed
    • Facilitates least restrictive environment placement of students with disabilities
    • Attends building-level IEP meetings, and transition meetings, and acts as the LEA Representative
    • Assists building-level administrators in resolving issues relating to the delivery of special education services
    • Assists in the development and implementation of EC schedules
    • Assists special education classroom teachers in developing appropriate IEPs, structuring/organizing classrooms, developing behavior management plans, utilizing ECATS, etc.
    • Works with the Administration in planning and providing in-service training and staff development for general education and special education staff
    • Assists in Interviewing special education applicants
    • Strives to maintain and improve professional competence
    • Attends meetings, school events, and serves on staff committees as required.
    • Complies with a Daily Check-in and out System
    • Reads and Understands the entire Employee Handbook
    • Reads and Understands the entire Parent-Student Handbook
    • Has read, understands, and will follow the ACS Employee Code of Ethics & General Standards of Conduct
