About the Department/Division:
The McKinney Vento Coordinator is part of the Student & Family Services department. This department provides guidance and support for the district’s school counselors, school social workers, school nurses, and students in transition.
Position Summary:
The McKinney Vento Coordinator will manage the district’s Homeless Education program. Through direct work with families and school social workers, the Coordinator will help identify families under the MKV program and connect to resources and services that remove barriers to a student’s education. Further, the Coordinator will help parents and social workers better understand the educational system so they can better advocate for their children's education.
Responsibilities:
- Lead professional development that helps school and district staff better understand McKinney Vento law and best practices
- Meet directly with families to establish MKV status
- Collaborate regularly with the federal programs department to monitor and manage funds and ensure appropriate documentation
- Collaborate with child nutrition, transportation and other applicable departments within ABSS to ensure students within the MKV program have access to available services and resources
- Serve as the district point of contact for foster care
- Manage MKV data and complete all necessary state and federal reporting
- Host family engagement activities for families within the program
- Establish and maintain community partnerships
- Maintain confidential and non-confidential records for documentation
- Provide regular communication with MKV parents of their education rights as well as educational opportunities for students
- Create and compile documentation as needed for records
- Plan and implement parent events, family nights, and parent training
- Survey parents for need based services
- Perform other duties as assigned
Minimum Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university
Required Qualifications:
- Valid North Carolina driver’s license
Preferred Qualifications:
- Hold or eligible to hold NC professional educator’s license for school social work
