POSITION PURPOSE:
The Electrician performs a moderate to large variety of duties in the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems, equipment, and fixtures. Work requires interpretation of prepared sketches, diagrams, schematics, and blueprints. Work assignments are performed in accordance with accepted practices. The Electrician resolves most problems independently, except for work of an unusual nature, in which a supervisor may be consulted. Errors in work could cause serious consequences, such as loss of human life and facilities. Employees receive limited supervision.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Graduation from high school, preferably supplemented by vocational training in electrical field.
- Considerable experience in performing most of the tasks associated with electrical work.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Considerable knowledge of the methods, practices, tools, and materials used in electrical installation, maintenance and repair work.
- Skill in the use and care of tools and equipment necessary to electrical work.
- Ability to locate and correct defects in electrical systems and equipment.
- Ability to understand and work from blueprints, schematics, sketches, or pencil drawings.
- Ability to follow oral or written instructions.
- Demonstrated skill in the use of tools and equipment
- Ability to plan and supervise the work of others as necessary
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE
- High School Diploma or GED
- Considerable electrical maintenance experience
- Any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities
CERTIFICATION AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS
- Must possess a valid driver’s license issued by the NC Department of Motor Vehicles
- Must possess or be able to hold applicable licensure or certification to operate heavy equipment, fork lifts, pick up and dump trucks, etc.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- NC Electrical Contracting License
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Perform minor repairs to electrical systems and equipment
- Install fixtures, outlets, and switches, and in making wire connections
- Replace defective wiring
- Troubleshoot and replace faulty electrical components
- Perform repair tasks on a variety of electrical systems including fuses, breakers, panels, branch circuits, light switches, receptacles, exhaust hood fans, motors and all other electrical system equipment
- Perform semi-skilled electrical work
- Help install, maintain, and repair public address systems, fire alarm systems, clocks, well pump systems, sewer 1.A systems, CATV systems, scoreboards, irrigation controls and generator systems
- Request, maintain and be responsible for inventory and accountability of material, tools, repair parts and equipment assigned and that is issued for use
- Submit work orders in accordance with school system procedures
- Perform skilled electrical work in addition to inspecting the work of semi-skilled workers
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the Director of Maintenance
