The Alaka`ina Foundation Family of Companies (FOCs) is looking for an Epidemiologist II - Epidemiology and Surveillance Team (EST) to provide support for our government customer in Fort Collins, Colorado.

DESCRIPTION OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide Level II (Mid-Level) epidemiology and surveillance support services to the Bacterial Diseases Branch. Support shall include activities in a dynamic environment involving epidemiologic data collection, management, and analysis; scientific writing and dissemination; project coordination and protocol support; vaccine policy support; collaboration with external partners; quality assurance; and coordination of surveillance, prevention, and public health response activities.
  • Perform epidemiologic data collection, analysis, and manuscript preparation activities to support public health practices related to bacterial vector-borne disease surveillance, prevention, and control.
  • Perform data management and analysis, including supporting the collection, cleaning, analysis, and interpretation of epidemiologic data using appropriate statistical methods for surveillance, research, and program evaluation.
  • Provide scientific writing support, including preparation of tables, slides, abstracts, conference materials, and manuscript contributions, including data cleaning, statistical analysis, and drafting of technical content.
  • Maintain scientific integrity by adhering to ethical and scientific standards and completing required training, including ethics and human subjects research training.
  • Participate in meetings and provide communication support to inform federal agencies, national, state, and local health agencies, and other stakeholders regarding research findings and project activities.
  • Provide project coordination and oversight support, including assisting in the development of study protocols and supporting IRB and OMB approval and renewal processes; coordinating multiple epidemiologic projects concurrently; and maintaining communication with internal and external stakeholders to ensure alignment with project objectives.
  • Provide scientific meeting support, including scheduling virtual and in-person meetings; preparing agendas and supporting materials; capturing meeting minutes and action items; and distributing meeting summaries within one (1) week of each meeting.
  • Support science dissemination by assisting in the preparation of technical reports and presentations summarizing project status, findings, and recommendations.
  • Provide quality assurance and methodological support by promoting scientific rigor, ensuring data quality, and supporting adherence to epidemiologic best practices across projects.
  • Support development of materials for professional organizations by gathering input from subject matter experts, coordinating document reviews, and preparing summary documents regarding Lyme disease vaccines and other preventive measures.
  • Provide meeting support for vaccine-related activities, including scheduling meetings, preparing agendas and materials, capturing meeting minutes, and distributing summaries within one (1) week of each meeting.
  • Support development of scientific summaries and communications by coordinating with subject matter experts and preparing materials related to vaccine performance and prevention strategies for use by professional organizations and stakeholders.
  • Participate in meetings and provide communication support related to public health guidance development for Lyme disease vaccines and other preventive measures.
  • Provide administrative, logistical, and epidemiologic support for public health response activities for DVBD and CDC, including emergency response efforts.
  • Support data collection, entry, and case follow-up activities in coordination with CDC staff and state and local health departments.
  • Provide timely responses to inquiries regarding subject matter expertise and CDC resources, as directed.[AH2] [JM3]
  • May be required to support activities outside of standard business hours, including evenings, weekends, or holidays, within the established labor-hour structure, based on program needs.

REQUIRED DEGREE/EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION:

Bachelors of Science in Biology, Chemistry, Math, Public Health, Epidemiology, Data Analytics, or related field

REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Proficiency in standard office software applications, including Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, and Word), as required to perform assigned tasks.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and interact professionally with CDC personnel and external partners.
  • Knowledgeable of laboratory safety, quality management, and access requirements.
  • Willing and able to complete required medical clearances, health screenings, or fit testing necessary to perform laboratory duties in accordance with CDC policies.
  • Willing and able to complete all required medical clearances, health screenings, and personal protective equipment (PPE) fit testing, as applicable, prior to performing work.
  • Minimum of three to five (3-5) years’ epidemiological work experience.
  • Strong data analysis skills and a firm understanding of public health surveillance and surveillance system evaluation methodologies.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and organization skills.

DESIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Prior experience supporting and adherence of the CDC Institutional Review Board (IRB) requirements and applicable federal regulations. The Contractor shall not engage in human subjects research activities without prior approval.
  • Competence in SAS and R analysis software preferred.
  • Experience with MS Access databases and GIS software preferred.

REQUIRED CITIZENSHIP AND CLEARANCE:

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen
  • Must be able to obtain a Personal Identification Verification (PIV) card
