What are the responsibilities and job description for the Journeyman Electrician position at Alaka`ina Foundation Family of Companies?
The Alaka`ina Foundation Family of Companies (FOCs) is looking for a Journeyman Electrician for our government customer in Kaua'i, Hawai'i.
Under minimal supervision, the candidate will be responsible for independently performing assignments in support of the PMRF project through verbal instruction, technical written plans, schematic diagrams and/or manufacturer’s customer contractor’s modifications instruction manuals, and work order requests, while complying with federal, state, local codes, and PMRF procedures and safety requirements. Specific assignments and responsibilities may require exercising of independent ability to assess and complete the job tasks.

DESCRIPTION OF RESPONSIBILITIES:
Specific assignment and responsibilities include but are not limited to the following areas:
- Able to determine the scope of the tasks required to be performed from verbal, written and schematic directions, drawings and diagrams.
- Performs task assignments IAW standards set forth by the discipline, customer/contractor on IAW applicable codes, specifications or ordinances mandated by the federal, state, or local Governments.
- Provides guidance and work-methods training for those employees at lower skilled classifications.
- Prepares and maintains reports and records as required.
- Coordinates with cognizant customer/contractor personnel.
- Performs assigned tasks in a highly skilled manner IAW established standards.
- Exercises independent judgement in determining that proper work methods and safe practices are utilized.
- Responsible for care, maintenance and safeguarding of Government equipment, tools, property and materials.
- Perform specific tasks in accordance with verbal and/or written instructions and observes safety, fire, health and work rules.
- Must be available and willing to work overtime and be called out for emergency work.
- Performs other related duties as assigned by the Supervisor.
REQUIRED DEGREE/EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION:
A.S. Degree or completion of a two (2) Year Technical or Trade School or equivalent.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Must have a minimum of ten (10) years progressive experience in the specific field, with a minimum of five (5) years experience at the Journeyman level and specific work assignments related to the current level of classification.
- Must demonstrate through testing or other means, mastery of theoretical and practical dexterity in the specific trade.
- Must be licensed in the specific field.
- Able to operate light and special purpose equipment such as overhead maintenance truck and forklift.
- Knowledgeable of the National Electric Code.
- Experience in residential, commercial and industrial wiring practices.
- The skill and knowledge of proper and safe use of tools and equipment associated with the trade.
- Have a good understanding of basic mathematics, able to read blueprints and schematics.
- Must have a valid Hawaii State Drivers License.
- Be able to obtain a Government Drivers License to operate utility trucks, stake trucks, aerial trucks and forklifts to 8 tons.
- Must be a U.S. Citizen
- Secret security clearance is required. (Applicants selected either must currently possess a Secret clearance or will be subject to a Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements to obtain clearance prior to commencement of employment, and maintain a security clearance for access to classified information or Closed/Restricted Areas throughout duration of employment.)
