Bering-Alaka`ina Holdings, LLC has a potential need for a Biomedical Equipment Technician (BMET) to provide support for our government customer in Omaha, Nebraska, at C-STARS Omaha located throughout the UNMC campus.

DESCRIPTION OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations and policies.
  • Test and calibrate components using manufacturers' manuals and troubleshooting techniques, hand tools, power tools and measuring devices.
  • Keep records of maintenance, repair, and required updates of equipment. Assesses and evaluates the condition of in-use medical equipment for maintenance, upgrade, or replace recommendations.
  • Inspect and test malfunctioning medical and related equipment following manufacturers' specifications, using test and analysis instruments.
  • Disassemble malfunctioning equipment and remove, repair, and replace defective parts such as motors, transformers, and circuit boards.
  • Perform preventive maintenance or service such as cleaning, lubricating, and adjusting medical and simulation equipment in accordance with OEM specifications.
  • Test, evaluate, and classify excess or in-use medical and simulation equipment and determine serviceability, condition, and disposition in accordance with regulations.
  • Effectively support and operate medical and simulation equipment, NPCL and C-130 Fuselage Trainer (FUT).
  • Examine medical equipment, simulation equipment, NPCL, C-130 FUT, C-17 training platform, and facility's structural environment and check for proper use of equipment, to protect students, patients, and staff from electrical or mechanical hazards.
  • Risks of working with the NPCL and C-130 FUT include electrical, fire, and explosion hazards as well as risk of physical injury. Knowledge of and compliance with NPCL Commercial User Guide is required. Typical maintenance actions for the C-130 FUT and C-17 training platform includes bolting, torquing, removal, and placement of minor parts and ensure availability of aircraft fuselages for training requirements are fulfilled.
  • Study technical manuals and attend training sessions provided by equipment manufacturers to maintain current knowledge.
  • Provide training to medical staff by explaining and demonstrating correct operation and operator preventive maintenance of medical equipment.
  • Wear personal protected equipment as required. Occasionally work includes live electrical wires, switches, and transformers of various voltage levels, exposing the worker to the possibility of shock, cuts, bruises, scrapes and serious burns. Use appropriate safety procedures and devices as required by the Government.
  • Lift Human Patient Simulation equipment from one room to another,
  • Work in low-light, high-volume environments and differing weather conditions simulating actual aeromedical evacuation missions.
  • Work is a combination of sedentary duties as well as light to moderate physical effort. Requirements include walking, standing, reaching, bending, and moving items.
  • Work periodically on hard surfaces.
  • Work is performed indoors/outdoors and in an environment involving everyday risks or discomforts which require normal safety precautions. The area is adequately lighted, heated, and ventilated.
  • Travel to provide in-person training, subject matter expertise, and support for up to 10 days per year for mission-essential activities including exercises, working groups, and training.
  • Provide technical expertise and support on operating a high-tech patient simulator system.
  • Prepare training environments, perform operations, and recover equipment and environment for scheduled training and upon request by C-STARS Omaha Staff.
  • Assist in the management and support daily operations of the simulation training program.
  • Develop and provide training, safety and maintenance materials appropriate to the operation of all simulation equipment as directed by the Simulation Program Coordinator or as warranted by operational necessity.
  • Assist and provide guidance to simulation center set-up.
  • Responsible for reporting needs regarding simulation equipment in support of course training scenarios targeted to meet identified learning objectives.
  • Assist with basic equipment troubleshooting items for the purpose of training additional cadre members.
  • Support cadre with pre, post, and during course tasks for all student activities including but not limited to, building student packets, badge distribution, placing meal orders, daily course set up/tear down/resupply, submitting end of course critiques to customer, and all required administrative actions.
  • Other duties as assigned by Supervisor.

REQUIRED DEGREE/EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION:

  • Must have an Associate degree in biomedical Equipment Technology or Engineering.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • At least two years of biomedical equipment technician experience.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships to represent the organization in a professional manner.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, writing, and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 Cloud based suite of productivity apps, to include Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, SharePoint, Zoom, and Adobe Acrobat programs.
  • Knowledge and understanding of applicable Air Force and professional standards.
  • Knowledge of military and civilian guidelines that govern policy and procedure.
  • Successful completion of Departments In-Processing/Orientation programs.
  • Knowledge of and skills in applying a wide range of specialized methods, principles, and techniques of electronics and complex medical system failures, recovery of systems, adjusting, modifying, and improving systems to include hardware and software components.
  • Knowledge of a wide range of electronic principles and practices, operating parameters, capabilities, and limitations of electronic systems associated with complex medical systems/equipment; and of systems and component design, capabilities, configurations, limitations, and functional operation; and of various types of electronic logic.
  • Knowledge of DoD, The Joint Commission, AAAHC, CAP, OSHA, NFPA, NEC, FDA and other regulations, procedures, and practices as it applies to biomedical equipment.
  • Skill in the interpretation of technical data such as drawings, schematics, blueprints, and specifications of complete electronic systems; in analyzing problems in integrated/interfacing systems involving numerous complex circuits; and in using complex electronic and electromechanical test and measuring equipment using integrated test functions for different purposes.
  • Ability to maintain, repair, and test biomedical equipment including the Negatively Pressurized Conex Lite (NPCL) in accordance with strict OEM technical compliance.
  • Ability to solve technical and performance problems for highly complex electronic systems.
  • Ability to trace electronics logic from one system to another.
  • Ability to use standard computers and software to enter and extract data to maintain records and document actions.
  • Must pass color vision test.
  • Lift, carry or otherwise handle items weighing up to 51 pounds with occasional encounters involving items greater than 51 pounds in accordance with NIOSH guidance.
  • A valid driver’s license is required for the position to obtain authorization to drive a government motor vehicle to service medical equipment that may be in other buildings.
  • Must be willing and able to sign a Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA).

DESIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • One year of military medical/military deployment experience.
  • Experience with military protocols and administrative actions like decorations, evaluations, and reports.
  • Experience with Learning Management Systems, Audio/visual solutions, moulage creation & application, hyper-realistic simulators, and task-trainers.
  • Experience with Air Force Technical Order System

REQUIRED CITIZENSHIP AND CLEARANCE:

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Must be able to pass a Tier 1/SF 85 background investigation.
