Role Description The Fleet Mechanic is a full-time, on-site role based in Gainesville, FL, responsible for maintaining and repairing County vehicles and equipment. Day-to-day tasks include performing routine inspections, diagnosing mechanical issues, and completing preventive maintenance on light and heavy fleet vehicles. The role also involves troubleshooting mechanical and electrical problems, documenting work performed, and following safety and regulatory standards. The Fleet Mechanic collaborates with other team members to schedule repairs, minimize downtime, and ensure the fleet remains safe, reliable, and operational for County services.

Qualifications

  • Candidates should possess strong skills in Maintenance, Maintenance & Repair for fleet vehicles and equipment.
  • Candidates should possess skills in Preventive Maintenance to ensure long-term reliability and safety of the fleet.
  • Candidates should possess experience working with Heavy Equipment, including diagnostics and repairs.
  • Candidates should possess effective Troubleshooting skills for mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems.
  • Relevant certifications or vocational training in automotive or diesel technology are beneficial.
  • Experience in municipal or commercial fleet operations is preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and work orders is important.
  • Valid driver’s license, strong safety awareness, and ability to meet physical demands of the role are required.
