The Alabama State Nurses Association (ASNA) Executive Director serves as the chief executive officer, responsible for directing association activities, implementing strategic goals and acting as a liaison to the Board of Directors (Board) and the Membership Assembly.

Key Responsibilities/ Core Functions:
1. Member Engagement, Governance, and External Relations
· Execute the overall operations, mission and strategic goals
· Serve as liaison between the Board, committee chairs, district presidents, members, and constituent groups
· Represent ASNA to external partners, stakeholders, and the public
2. Staff and Organizational Management
· Oversee the daily operations of the organization
· Hybrid position in which Executive Director will work 5 days within the Montgomery office or attend official ASNA business each month.
· Supervise staff (direct and indirect)
· Provide opportunities for staff development (direct and indirect)
· Maintain authority over staff hiring, performance, management, and discipline (within Board approved policy)
· Foster a positive, compliant, and mission-driven work culture
3. Strategic Planning and Execution
· Implement strategies for member recruitment, retention, and engagement
· Lead development of strategic plans in collaboration with the Board
· Translate strategy into operational plans, metrics, and timelines
· Monitor progress of planned activities
· Report outcomes to the Board
4. Financial Management and Sustainability
· Advance funds development and partnership development for revenue generation
· Manage the association’s budget for financial stability and longevity
· Provide regular financial reports to the Board and Treasurer, including budget and actual performance and investment updates
· Oversee diversification of revenue streams (dues, sponsorships, grants and programs)
· Create fundraising opportunities
5. Board of Directors Relations with Clear Authority and Reporting
· Foster a strong, collaborative partnership with the Board
· Report to Board at regular intervals or as requested
· Work with the Board with a shared governance approach
· Support Board effectiveness through communication, reporting, and meeting facilitation
· Pursue legislative and advocacy operations as directed by the Board
· Participate in annual performance evaluation processes led by the Board President
6. Programs, Education, and Professional Practice
· Oversee professional development and continuing education offerings
· Support nursing practice initiatives
· Align program offerings with ASNA’s mission and member needs
· Evaluate program effectiveness
· Ensure program outcomes are reported at Membership Assembly
7. Communication and Public Presence
· Oversee internal and external communication strategies
· Fill public spokesperson role if ASNA or District President is unavailable
· Pursue media relations and issue ASNA’s position or stance, as approved by the Board
8. Compliance, Policy and Risk Management
· Verify compliance with legal, regulatory, and ethical requirements
· Ensure risk management and protection of organizational assets
· Support policy development and enforcement
