JOB DESCRIPTION
QUALIFICATIONS:
(1) Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).
(2) Pass controlled substance and alcohol monitoring.
(3) Three (3) years of experience in transportation related area.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of federal, state and local laws, policies, and procedures relating to the transportation of public-school students. Ability to prepare written communications. Skills and abilities to work with the general public, news media, students, parents, school administrators, and staff. Strong interpersonal skills.

To provide a transportation system that is safe, efficient, and economical for all eligible public-school students.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
TRANSPORTATION SUPERVISOR:
- (1) Serve as Program Administrator for the system's Controlled Substance and Alcohol Testing Program.
- (2) Develop and implement a system-wide transportation program to meet requirements of the daily instructional program and extracurricular activities.
- (3) Manage and direct the transportation function for the public school system.
- (4) Project needs for additional or replacement buses.
- (5) Plan in-service training programs for school bus drivers.
- (6) Maintain a preventative maintenance schedule for school buses and other automotive vehicles within the Transportation Department and in the system.
- (7) Make recommendations to the School Board for appointments and personnel changes (promotions, transfers, etc.).
- (8) Work closely with school personnel to schedule services and to solve operational and student discipline problems.
- (9) Supervise the preparation of records and reports.
- (10) Represent the Transportation Department in recommendations for policies and procedures to improve the economy, efficiency, and quality of operations and services.
- (11) Respond to inquiries and concerns in a timely manner.
- (12) Keep supervisor informed of departmental functions and concerns, potential problems or unusual events.
- (13) Keep abreast of laws, policies and rules, as well as new trends and directions in school transportation.
- (14) Facilitate the development, implementation and evaluation of staff development activities in assigned areas.
- (15) Attend training sessions, conferences and workshops as assigned or appropriate to keep abreast of current practices, programs and legal issues.
- (16) Represent the system in a positive and professional manner.
- (17) Develop or assist in developing the department budget and monitor its implementation as required.
- (18) Supervise assigned personnel, conduct 'annual performance appraisals and make recommendations for appropriate employment actions.
- (19) Ensure adherence to safety standards.
- (20) Assist in implementing the system's goals and strategic commitment.
- (21) Utilize appropriate strategies and problem-solving tools to make decisions regarding planning, utilization of funds, delivering services and evaluation of services provided.
- (22) Demonstrate initiative in identifying potential problems or opportunities for improvement and take appropriate action.
- (23) Use appropriate styles and methods to motivate, gain commitment and facilitate task accomplishment.
- (24) May be required to work beyond the 40-hour work week.
(25) Perform other tasks consistent with the goals and objectives of this position.
ALTERNATIVE SCHOOL ADMINISTRATOR:
- (1) Oversee the daily operation and administration of the district's alternative education program, ensuring a safe, structured, and productive learning environment for students assigned to the program.
- (2) Coordinate with school administrators, teachers, counselors, and support staff to ensure students receive appropriate instructional materials, complete assigned coursework, and maintain academic progress during their placement.
- (3) Monitor student attendance, behavior, and academic performance, maintaining accurate records and communicating progress with parents, school personnel, and district administrators as appropriate.
- (4) Serve as the primary liaison between the alternative education program and students' home schools to facilitate effective communication, consistent expectations, and successful student transitions back to their regular educational setting.
- (5) Ensure compliance with district policies, state regulations, and due process requirements related to student discipline, alternative education placement, and recordkeeping.
- (6) Develop and implement procedures that promote student accountability, positive behavior, and academic success while maintaining a secure and orderly learning environment.
- (7) Coordinate with community agencies, counselors, and other support services to address student needs and assist in developing intervention strategies that promote successful reintegration into the traditional school setting.
- (8) Prepare reports and maintain documentation related to student enrollment, attendance, disciplinary placements, academic progress, and program effectiveness.
(9) Perform other duties as assigned by the Superintendent.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force as frequently as needed to move objects.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Salary and benefits shall be paid consistent with the System's approved compensation plan. Length of the work year and hours of employment shall be those established by the System.
EVALUATION:
Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on evaluation of personnel.
