Job Title: SPEECH-LANGUAGE PATHOLOGIST

Supervised by/Reports to: Director of Special Education

FLSA Status: Exempt

Job Goals:

  • To provide speech-language services to students.
  • To provide consultative and collaborative services to teachers, parents, administrators and staff.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Speech-Language Pathology.
  • Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology preferred.
  • Possess and maintain proper certificate as required by the Alabama State Department of Education.
  • Proficiency in oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to meet the suitability criteria for employment and/or certification licensure.
  • Ability to interpret assessment data, group students, and develop methodologies and strategies conducive to individualized instructional needs.
  • Physical strength, emotional ability, and dexterity to perform required work and move about as needed in a fast-paced, highly intensive work environment.
  • Ability to use technology to communicate, to manage data, and to produce/submit required reports, correspondence, and/or financial information.
  • Ability to be punctual and in regular attendance.

Performance Responsibilities and Essential Functions:

  • Demonstrates support for the school system and its vision, goals, and priorities.
  • Organizes and conducts language, speech, and hearing screenings in the schools, as directed.
  • Evaluates students for speech-language services through use of standardized tests.
  • Selects children with clinical communicative disorders for enrollment in therapy.
  • Consults with principals and teachers regarding scheduling student therapy.
  • Coordinates the Language, Speech and Hearing Services Program with other school programs.
  • Prescribes and implements speech-language therapy for designated students.
  • Provides individual and/or group therapy for children with language, speech, or hearing disorders.
  • Participates as requested in IEP development, implementation, and meetings.
  • Provides information to teachers about student therapy progress.
  • Provides consultative services to regular or special classroom teachers, curriculum specialists, and parents and disseminates information on communicative skills development, special materials, and procedures to be used in helping children develop appropriate communicative behaviors.
  • Recommends classroom speech improvement plans.
  • Maintains required records regarding children’s progress in therapy.
  • Conveys needs of assigned students to classroom teachers.
  • Meets with parents as requested.
  • Maintains confidentiality regarding school/workplace matters in accordance with state and federal laws.
  • Demonstrates initiative in identifying opportunities for improvement in areas of responsibility.
  • Engages in professional growth and demonstrates professional ethics and effective leadership.
  • Responds to inquiries and requests in a timely and positive manner.
  • Maintains and submits required reports in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Properly cares for equipment and material resources of the school system.
  • Uses effective collaboration skills to work as a team member.
  • Adheres to school system rules, administrative procedures, local Board policies, and state, federal, and local laws.
  • Reports absences and takes leave in accordance with Board policies and procedures.
Performs any other job-related duties as assigned by Supervisor(s).

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk and use hands to finger, to handle, or feel objects, equipment, or controls. The employee frequently is required to talk and hear. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms, climb stairs, bend, stoop, squat, and crouch and kneel. The employee must occasionally lift, push, pull carry and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include near vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

Salary: Salary to be established by The Limestone County School’s District Salary Schedule.
