SUMTER COUNTY SCHOOLS
TITLE: Parental Involvement Specialist
QUALIFICATIONS: Must be a high school graduate from a regionally accredited
school or have GED equivalent. Some college preferred.
REPORTS TO: Superintendent
JOB GOAL: Position exists to function as part of the network of assistance for
students and families in Title I schools. Coordinates
communication and activities in the assigned Title I schools
among the teachers, parents, community and school
administrators.
LENGTH OF CONTRACT: Nine Months
SALARY: Per Salary Schedule. Contingent on Grant Funding Availability
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Serve as liaison between student, home, school, and community resources such as family services agencies.
2. Works with professional personnel, students, and parents to help students be successful in school by making
available information to increase the understanding of specific elements that may be attributed to problems related
to emotional, physical, academic, and economic areas.
3. Plans and provides activities related to parent involvement that would enhance the school’s climate.
4. Cooperates with administrators in implementing the parent involvement program according to state and federal
guidelines.
5. Hold regular meetings of the committee to disseminate information and solicit member input.
6. Encourage parent/teacher conference to provide specific instructional information.
7. Encourage parent volunteers to participate in the program.
8. Coordinate the in-service education program for parents of students through providing information, materials, and
training for parents.
9. Maintain adequate inventory of materials and supplies used in parenting workshops or loaned to parents.
10. Coordinate special events with the Principals, Teachers, and Community Education Coordinator to inform parents
of the instructional activities in the school system.
11. Assist in preparing the school district newsletter.
12. Participates in training sessions to improve techniques for working with parents.
13. Attends and participates in meetings associated with parents.
14. Maintain an acceptable level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about parents and students.
15. Performing other duties as specified by the Superintendent.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Full Time -Nine (9) months.

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance to provision of the Board's policy on Evaluation of administrative
Personnel. This job description in no way states or implies that these are the only duties to be performed by this
employee.
The Parental Involvement Specialist will be required to follow any other instructions and to perform any other related
duties as assigned by the Superintendent or other appropriate administrator. Sumter County Schools reserves the right to
