SUMMARY:
To help each student achieve a high level of strength and fitness, an appreciation for the values of discipline and sportsmanship, and an increased level of self-esteem as well as learn the importance of nutrition as it relates to athletics.REPORTS TO:
Athletic Director and PrincipalESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
Coaches individual participants in the skills necessary for achievement in the weight room and field/court.
Plans and schedules a regular strength and conditioning program for all students who are in and out of season.
Works closely with the Principal and/or AD in scheduling classes.
Recommends purchase of equipment and supplies for weight room.
Maintains necessary attendance forms, insurance records, and similar paperwork.
Oversees the safety conditions of the facility or area in which assigned sport is conducted at all times that students are present.
Establishes and maintains a professional level of rapport with other teachers, team leaders, department heads, district-level coordinators and/or program directors, and instructional support and service employees of the school district.
Fulfills professional responsibilities beyond those exhibited in the classroom, such as school and district program improvement efforts, participation in community and parent groups, abide by and promote high ethical standards, etc.
Models appropriate personal characteristics and work habits that are consistent with personal development goals established for students.
Establishes and maintains effective, professional relationships with students, parents, colleagues, and community members.
Abides by the Alabama Educator Code of Ethics, Decatur City Schools Board Policy, and any other pertinent authority.
Establishes performance criteria for eligibility in interscholastic competition in the coach’s sport.
Introduces nutritional guidelines for students.
Enforces disciplined and sportsmanlike behavior at all times, and establishes and oversees penalties for breach of such standards by individual students.
Performs other tasks and assumes responsibilities by higher authority as deemed appropriate and necessary.
Other duties as assigned.
NON-ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Performs any other job-related duties as assigned by the Superintendent or Superintendent’s designee(s).
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited educational institution.
NSCA Certification or other professional certification.
Must meet background clearance requirements as specified by Alabama Statutes and State Board of Education regulations.
Valid Alabama Driver's License.
Current CPR/AED certifications along with Standard First Aid.
Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the board may find appropriate and acceptable.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from students, teachers, parents, regulatory agencies and members of the business community. Ability to write, speak and present information effectively.MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to work with mathematical concepts and interpret data. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent.
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATION:
- Valid Alabama Professional Educator Certificate ( PREFERRED )
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to hear, stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls and reach with hands and arms' and talk. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 35 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perceptions, and the ability to adjust focus.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The noise level in the work environment is moderate to high.
The employee regularly works inside or outside and is exposed to heat, cold, and dampness.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
- 12-month contract

Within the state of Alabama, experience must be verified on Supplement EXP
Outside the state of Alabama, we must have a letter (on school district letterhead) or public school district form showing beginning and ending dates stating your years of service and position held while employed
Credit is awarded for public school experience only, private, parochial, or similar experience will not be accepted
Experience must be full time at least 50%-100% of the academic year
Administrative credit will be awarded only for experience in the same position, i.e., principal for principal position as stated in the salary schedule
Transfer Sick Leave: If you have sick leave from another state school system or from another state of Alabama agency, you must have a Sick Leave Transfer form sent from your previous employer to our Human Resources department
