TITLE : Principal:
QUALIFICATIONS: 1. A master's degree, with a major in in educational administration.
2. A valid state certificate to practice as a school principal.
3. At least three years of successful experience as a teacher.
4. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
REPORTS TO: Superintendent, or his designee
SUPERVISES: 1. Assistant Principals.
2. Teaching Staff and Paraprofessionals.
3. Other Professional Staff.
4. All Nonprofessional school staff.
5. Other Resource and Service Personnel while functioning in the assigned school.
JOB GOAL: To use leadership, supervisory, and administrative skills so as to promote the educational development of each student.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Supervises the school's educational program.
- Assumes responsibility for the implementation and observances of all Board policies and regulations by the school's staff and students.
- Assists in the development, revisions, and evaluation of the curriculum.
- Supervises all professional, paraprofessional, administrative, and non-professional personnel attached to the school.
- Assists in the recruiting, screening, hiring, training, assigning, and evaluating of the school's professional staff.
- Assumes responsibility for the safety and administration of the school plant.
- Delegates authority to responsible personnel to assume responsibility for the school in the absence of the principal.
- Budgets school time to provide for the efficient conduct of school instruction and business.
- Plans and supervises fire drills and an emergency preparedness program.
- Maintains high standards of student conduct and enforces discipline as necessary, according due process to the rights of students.
- Asserts leadership in times of civil disobedience in school in accordance with established Board policy.
- Supervises and evaluates the school's extracurricular program.
- Assists in the in-service orientation and training of teachers, with special responsibility for staff administrative procedures and instructions.
- Supervises the preparation of all school reports for the district office.
- Makes recommendations concerning the school's administration and instruction.
- Assumes responsibility for attendance, conduct, and health of students.
- Assists the management and preparation of the school budget.
- Supervises the maintenance of accurate records on the program and attendance of students.
- Acts as a liaison between the school and the community, interpreting activities and policies of the school and encouraging community participation in school life.
- Makes arrangements for special conferences between parents and teachers.
- Orients, assists, and evaluates all staff members in their development, as appropriate.
- Recommends the removal of a teacher whose work is unsatisfactory, according to established procedures.
- Conducts meetings of staff as necessary for the proper functioning of the school.
- Provides general administration and supervision of the school's Child's Nutrition Program.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Twelve month year. Salary and work year to be established by the Board.
EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Sumter County Board's policy on Evaluation of Administrative Personnel.
