AUBURN CITY SCHOOLS

DIRECTOR OF COUNSELING AND SOCIAL WORK SERVICES - 238 CONTRACT DAYS

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree (preferred) from an accredited educational institution
  • Certification or Licensure within the State of Alabama in a related field
  • Minimum of 5 years successful leadership and program management experience in appropriate field
  • Must hold valid Alabama Driver’s License; Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) preferred
  • Must meet background clearance requirements as specified by Alabama Statutes and State Board of Education regulations

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge of administrative processes and their impact on district and school operations. Knowledge of child/human development, mental health, assessment/intervention, and family social dynamics. Knowledge of research, trends, and best practice interventions with children/families. Knowledge of community resources to support family stability. Skills in oral and written communication. Skills in mediation and crisis intervention. Ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with students, teachers and families. Ability to organize, manage time, and work efficiently. Ability to adhere to ethical standards and manage sensitive information with confidentiality.

Assistant Superintendent of Business and Operations

JOB GOAL

To provide district-wide leadership, coordination, and supervision of school counseling and social work support efforts to enhance student academic learning and success in the classroom.

SUPERVISES:

Assigned Personnel

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

* (1) Administer attendance, social services, mental health, foster care, and homeless services, budgets, and personnel.

* (2) Coordinate, support, and audit districtwide School Counseling Program efforts.

* (3) Lead and direct student support team of school counselors and school social workers.

* (4) Serve as the district McKinney-Vento Liaison to facilitate interventions and dispute resolution for homeless students.

* (5) Participate as a member of the district Discipline Review Committee to resolve complex disciplinary matters and serve as liaison with Alternative School contract.

* (6) Serve as team member for the district Safety Assessment Team, providing safety screening assessment support to staff.

* (7) Assist in implementing the system’s vision, mission, core values, and priorities.

* (8) Supervise assigned personnel, conduct annual performance appraisals, and offer recommendations for appropriate employment actions.

* (9) Utilize appropriate strategies and problem-solving tools to make decisions regarding planning, utilization of funds, delivery of services, and evaluation of services provided.

*(10) Provide staff with opportunities for professional growth.

*(11) Attend professional development opportunities (trainings, conferences, and workshops) as assigned or appropriate to be informed of current practices, trends, and programs.

*(12) Serve as a liaison between school district and community partners, as appropriate.

*(13) Collaborate with community partnerships/agencies to gain resources for student support.

*(14) Represent the system in a positive and professional manner.

* (15) Ensure adherence to good safety standards.

* (16) Maintain confidentiality regarding all workplace matters.

* (17) Model and maintain high ethical standards.

* (18) Demonstrate initiative in the performance of assigned responsibilities.

* (19) Communicate effectively with all stakeholders.

* (20) Maintain good public and community relationships.

* (21) Keep supervisor informed of potential problems or unusual events.

* (22) Respond to inquiries and concerns in a timely manner.

* (23) Serve on school/system/community committees as required or appropriate.

* (24) Exhibit interpersonal skills to work as an effective team member.

* (25) Work closely with school administrators, faculties, and other staff.

* (26) Demonstrate initiative in identifying potential problems or opportunities for improvement.

* (27) Prepare all required reports and maintain all records in a timely manner.

* (28) Participate in cross-training activities as required.

(29) Perform other tasks consistent with the goals and objectives of this position or as assigned.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Light Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds of force as frequently as needed to move objects.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Salary and benefits shall be paid consistent with the system’s approved compensation plan.

Length of the work year and hours of employment shall be established by the school system.

EVALUATION:

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on evaluation of personnel.
