JOB TITLE: Child Nutrition Program Worker - Itinerant

REPORTS TO: Child Nutrition Program Manager

DAYS / HOURS: 183 Days / 6.5 hours

FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt

Supervisory Responsibilities :

  • None

Education, Certification and/or Experience:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent (GED)
  • NRA ServSafe Food Protection Manager Certified (*Effective October 1, 2021)
  • Experience in school food service preferred, but not required

  • Ability to meet suitability criteria under the Alabama Child Protection Act of 1999 and Act No. 2002-457
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as state, federal, and local law and the Board may require

Duties and Responsibilities :

  • Demonstrates support for the school system and its vision, mission, goals, and priorities
  • Food preparation
    • Knows daily menu requirements
    • Follows daily food preparation schedule
    • Follows recipes
    • Knows when to begin food preparation
    • Knows how to store prepared food before serving
    • Prepares assigned dishes
  • Food storage
    • Assures that food is stored at appropriate temperatures
    • Maintains a first in/first out (FIFO) procedure for moving food from storage
    • Maintains a record of food taken from storage
  • Serving line
    • Serves students and staff in a friendly manner
    • Serves prescribed portions to all customers
    • Serves a neat and attractive tray
    • Maintains a clean serving line
    • Protects and replenishes food between serving periods
  • Personal responsibilities
    • Maintains a high standard of personal hygiene
    • Follows assignments given by manager
    • Maintains a friendly attitude toward co-workers and customers
    • Completes work assignments on time
    • Reports to work on time as scheduled and clocks in and out on time
    • Accepts duties assigned by manager
    • Follows approved dress code for lunchroom workers
  • Cleaning responsibilities
    • Maintains a clean work area
    • Performs duties such as serving and cleaning of tables, counters, and furnishings in dining area
    • Assumes dish room responsibilities when assigned
    • Properly cleans equipment, floors, storage areas, bathrooms, walls, furniture, and windows when assigned
    • Removes garbage and sanitizes can
    • Cleans and hangs mops
  • Cashiering/Record Keeping
    • Accounts for funds collected from students, staff, and visitors
    • Accounts for meals and reconciles all transactions to funds collected and meals served
    • Uses lists of free and reduced breakfast and lunch recipients and accounts for students receiving such meals during serving period - maintains confidentiality
    • Assists with automated production records, recipes, nutrition analysis, menu overlays, and day-end procedures
  • Special Events
    • Prepares food as assigned for special events such as banquets, luncheons. box lunches, etc.
    • Completes set-up, service, and clean-up for special events
  • Repeatedly lifts and/or moves cases and pans of food and other materials
  • Follows CNP HACCP Standard Operating Procedures and employee handbook guidelines
  • Adheres to local Board policies, administrative procedures, and other like directives, as well as state, federal, and local laws
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned by Supervisor(s)

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability with sight (near vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus)
  • Ability to lift, pull, push, carry and/or move fifty (50) pounds, reach with hands and arms, climb stairs, bend, stoop, squat, crouch, and kneel
  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, and use hands and fingers to handle or feel objects, equipment, or controls

Background Check Required:

  • (Ala. Code §§ 16-22A-5) Upon offer of employment, employees will be required to submit legible fingerprints for a background review by the Alabama Bureau of Investigation and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

  • Position will be subject to the Students First Act of 2011. Cullman City Schools reserves the right to fill this position by internal applicants by means of transfer
  • Under the Students First Act of 2011, no credit toward tenure or non-probationary status is earned in the initial year of employment if hired after September 30.
